« on: October 30, 2006, 10:58:52 pm »
IT guru's please help here, if I post a image from a ride report I have to click again?  Is there a short cut to add pics faster?
Please explain Close tags?  It just seems like allot of click, click, click.

What does code mean?

and List?

I am sure there are many other people struggling with this lingo.

Paste pictures URL  into the post where you want it to appear. Highlight the URL.  Click "img" button once.  Done.
I wonder where that road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. Appologies to Mr Frost

Interesting....

If you do what I said you should do, (making sure to highlight the URL, as if you are going to copy it again) and then CLICK on the "img" button it works, but if you PRESS alt+p it will just give you the URL[/img].

Dunno why?

It is simple to explain. Remember in software, you have to tell the computer exactly what to do. I can not think for itself.

When you submit a post, you are actually doing html programming, or programming a html page. And thus you have to tell the computer (or in this case the html interpreter) that it should not treat the link as a link to a website (url), but should display the content. The URL button will add a link for you to click on and then take you to that url.

So simply put, you are designing a html webpage when you post.

Simple ne?

To really know whats happening, it will help to understand the concept of opening and closing tags and why you do it. Hope this helps.....you guys are just lucky you had such an awesome trip.  ;D

Tags are like markers.

You need to open a marker to indicate that the next bit of text is a picture, but if you do, you need to tell the website where the marker ends, else it will consider all text after the marker to be part of whatever you are trying to tell it, and in HTML, it just involves putting a "/" in the closing tag(marker).

EG. Images: (closing)
Bold Font: (opening) and (closing)
etc (just without the italics, they just there to prevent the browser from interpetting the tags.

So, if you have an image located on photobucket or wherever, you need the path to it. Take a look at my avatar. If you right click the image, and click properties, you will get the following address: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=5894;type=avatar

Now, the browser didnt take that as an image.

You need to mark it as an "img". The opening image take will be (meaning end).

So, to link the image, it will be:

But without the spaces on either side of the link.

Click on "Quote" for my post, and you can see exactly how I mark the avatar to be displayed below

Oh man, you techies are all the same ......

maybe this will help the next poor soul .....

Step1
Log on to an image hosting Web site, such as Photo Bucket (http://www.photobucket.com/). This requires setting up an account, but only basic information is needed.
Step2
Click on "Browse". This brings up a window that allows you to access your saved photos. Double click on the file you want. It will automatically appear in the box next to "Browse". Once you see it in green, click "Upload".
Step3
Look for the photo to appear below the upload box. Next to it, you can see 4 lines of codes. Each code has a specific function, but the one you want is "HTML tag" and begins with "< hrefâ?¦?.>
Step4
Copy and paste the code into the text box of whatever you are posting. If it's a MySpace comment, place the cursor where you want the picture to appear and paste the code at that point. If it is for a blog, you may have to paste it and then re-arrange the positioning based on that particular blog site's directions.
Step5
Re-size the picture if it appears too large or too small. Usually if the picture needs re-sizing it's because it's too big (over 60K). Go back to the image hosting site and choose "Re-size" for the picture. From here you can choose to enlarge or reduce the size. Be sure to check whether you want the newly resized photo to replace the original or upload as a copy. Do this before clicking "OK" so you don't lose your original if you don't want to.

I have to agree the images via hosting websites is not very user friendly. After groot gesukkel I thought I got image posting right via Image Shack. Then, suddenly, the images are not embedded in the post anymore, only a thumbnail. Haven't a clue why.....
