Tableview Plastic Ride
« on: June 29, 2009, 04:23:10 pm »
Guys

Are there any plastic riders in TV/Parklands/Blouberg that feel like getting together for a ride sometime? My suggestion would be to meet at the garage in West Beach and then to play around in the bush along the pylon road, maybe head out to Atlantis along the railway line, ride around there a bit and then head back to Doodles for a beer. Maybe a 3 hour ride? An afternoon in the week might be good - minimal traffic around (I once had an ugly head on accident at the base of Blouberg hill which necessitated helicopter casavac action). We live in CT, so duck work early on Friday say and go for a ride. With all the rain we've had the sand should be firm with plenty of traction around.

Thoughts?

You're on the Cape Enduro forum as well are'nt you? Have you still got riding buddies in the Blouberg area? I used to ride there a lot until they closed the hill and have not been back since. I would like to hook up with a few guys that know the area as it currently is. If not, I'll do an exploratory ride on my own. I see that someone got nailed in Atlantis with a wire strung across the track between two trees? This always worried me when we used to ride in the area frequently as rumours of wire stringing were around a long time ago.

Be very aware of riding out that side at the moment,lots of wire been put up,lots of guys in groups are taking on bikers and dont give a damn,they not scared to take on 5 to 6 guys at a time,really shit ,was lekker ridding those routes.
ROUTE DIFFICULTY
1 = tar
2 = good gravel /pillian friendly
3 = interspersed with sand, mud, sand , bush / not pillian friendly
4 = lots of sand, technical riding 5 = expert only

  Ive never had a problem with the squatters... only with their dogs chasing me. Id rather ride in west beach or ride towards the quarry and zone7. Blouberg hill is a do-able but you need a quiet bike as the green men are there ... they caught me and a buddy there last year and threatened us. Parklands is only good for whoopies...

I think they biggest problem is the attitude of the riders. lets face it blazing past their informal settlements pinned in 5th gear is a no no. If i had to live there, i would probably have done the same.  Respect them and they will respect you. Be friendly, wave, nod your head... It could save your life!

And asseblief ride slowly around their area.

I live on the top of the hill above Doodles. Our property looks out on the bush area and I can see some of the trails we used to ride. From time to time I hear a four stroke in the area - could be bike or quad. I've also seen the odd WR 450F riding from the Builders Warehouse area. So the guys are still out there somewhere it seems. Is there decent outriding at Zone 7 or is it basically a big loop like Melkbos 4x4?

The odd WR450 is probably me .. I used to ride there  almost daily.

Atlantis sounds good. When though? Is'nt that place overun with 4x4's and quads these days? I'm very wary of crowds these days, especially since I had a major head-on at the base of Blouberg Hill a few years back

Best time to ride is early in the am .. around 6-7am or later in the afternoon 4-6pm - The sun does not create too much glare then.
