did you attend the Karoo on end April 2011?

I was there, I remember a white smallish bike (cant remember if it was a XR 250 Tornado) cruising south on the Sunday morning. Due to me stopping in Graaf-Reinett, and long in Willowmore I passed that bike three times that day.

When I turned off for De Rust, it went flying down past to Uniondale....

Hey All, hope I am posting this on the right place as I am new on this site. My name is Henry, and I hope to get some tips of places to ride to as I have not done much adventure riding cause we don't have many mates to ride with. Well after that sad story lets put a pic on here for you all to see. Chat soon!

Welcome to WD Henry :thumleft: - if you're looking for places to ride and mates to ride with, it is best to keep an eye on the "Planning a Ride" section of the forum. Lots going on there.

this picture goes back to 1973. How many of you guys were doing adventure rides then? This is my buddy Spook on his 72cc Honda with my Suzuki AS50 taken on the old Coega road (eastern Cape) ...we were on our way to Port Alfred for the Bathurst Show (and more). My folks thought I was on another buddies farm and Spook's folks were none the wiser as to his wherabouts either! No panniers in those days...and virtually no itinerary either. We "camped" wherever we ended up at the end of that particular day. What special memories I have of those halycon days!

Hello Dirt Yarpie
You started a bit before me :imaposer:
I only started around 1980 with my first bike a brand new klr250. Did not have money for tent and all that. I slept a few times in the toilets at distant service stations to get out of cold etc. Lekker days, love your old pics. Unfortunately I never bothered with cameras and such. Sorry today though as I had a very interesting biking life.
Also ex PE.

Yes, we also did not have a tent. We were limited to sleeping bags (my Mom made mine!) and a pot and some food. Wonderful days we had...slept on the beach, on farms and anywhere we could stop for the night for that matter. We did many rides out on the Eland's river road...one of our mates had a piece of land on nthe river...spent many school holidays there.
