This past weekend was the Father & Son weekend organized by KTM Cape Town & Graham Hedgecock – enduro rider and off-bike hooligan of note. In case you are wondering, it was not a KTM-only event. Riders of all other brands were there.
The focus of the weekend was to spend time with our sons and for them to enjoy a camp where they could ride their bikes and do pretty much what they wanted all weekend. No mothers, bathing, brushing teeth the whole weekend! Heaven!
The long road to Ceres: “don’t you dare roost me”
The event took place on the Ezelfontein farm outside Ceres. We were hoping for snow, but the hot weather last week put these hopes to bed. The campsite has a number of eco-huts, cleverly made from bamboo fixed to adjacent pine trees.
The beautiful surroundings provide unlimited space for riding, mountain biking and other activities.
Arriving at the camp, the little guys could not wait to go riding
Dads doing what they do best.
Graham trying to show us that he does have some domesticity.
Apart from riding, one of the kinds’ favourite pastimes was stoking the fire. After a whole weekend of riding, not bathing and stoking the fire, imagine what they smelled like.
Hey mums! Look at this! Marshmallows just before bedtime.... > >
The dads also loved stoking the fire.....
Well, the weekend wasn’t (just) about camping, it was about riding too...
Still the trusted way of getting around.
Everybody divided into 2 groups. One for the kiddies and one for the experienced enduro riders.
The kiddies were accompanied by several adults that helped them over the difficult sections and coached them along the way.
… and after a tough morning of riding, some lunch……
…. and some more poking the fire..
This is what a bike looks like after a real ride….
After the weekend, tired and contented riding buddies.
A really big thanks to all involved in organising this superb event, especially Graham Hedgecock and the KTM guys. This is what builds lasting memories between father and son and keeps the sport alive.
