The motor will still not have 'soul', ask any 990/950 owner about the LC8 'soul'... :peepwall:

Funny, THAT is what I said every time my Alfa was put on a flat bed.

Absolutely true, but some guys have got bad taste though ( GS = German Slut, KTM = Kind To Marry etc.)  :pot:

My 2c worth

I owned a R1200GS for 2 years, then an R1200GS ADV for a year, never got used to the weight of the ADV and decided I needed a lighter bike. Please understand here that I had ALL BMW stuff, panniers, Ralley Suite, helmets etc etc. So I took the 800 for a weekend day long demo and my opinion was that it's a nice bike, looks mean, but it didn't feel that good off road. The front felt very heavy and I didn't like the "whiney" motor. On Monday I took the 990 for a day and the rest is history, I now own 3 KTMs.

Yes, they are more expensive to service, there's no roadside assistance(because you don't need it) :mwink: and they might not look as mean as the 800 BUT, from a fun to ride point of view, power, adrenalin, enjoyment, I can't beat it. I don't regret my change one bit.

I think it all boils down to personal opinion. :3some:

I read the last article and honestly it doesn't say much, I'd even go as far as saying it was pathetic. :lamer:

Please please please bring back Topbike, there just isn't anything to compare :'(

very very disapointing lead up to the verdict. I just hope in this months issue they at least talk about and compare the differences of the two bikes and discuss in detail how they come to their decession.

We are beating around the bush here, Lets take 3 GS 800's against 3 any KTM's, any size, and see who reach the finish line (kuierplek) first.

Fcuk I am missing my KLR, KTM's behold. :pot:
Die Bloues is definitief die vinnigste!!

So, what was the verdict? Or must I buy the farking mag?
Knowing Clinton Pienaar and his penchant for BMW, I would be suprised if the 800 lost.

Chicco I'm not sure which mag you read :D

From what I read it was the usual draw, Clinton preferred the KTM and the other guy the 800, as usual they weren't going to put their c*ck on a block and say the one was better than the other, that was to be expected..... ::)

Why is it important to have a winner, for school boy arguments?

Having a winner is only important for posers, real bikers feel f-all for what bike win whatever based on bikemag impressions.  ;)

What a waste of R60.

Both articles said nothing about both bikes.

What a load of shit.

Now if they did a shoot out like they did for the 1000cc road bikes in last month and this month between the Ducati, aprillia and yamaha I might be impressed.

also they have the pricing wrong for the ktm, if I am not mistaken the 990 adv will set you back 127 grand and the 990R 145 grand. They are testing the 990adv not the 990R in this article.
FFS get the figures right. or have the ktm 990 adv gone up 20 grand in the last month.

all I will say is that article was one pathetic write up imho.

Sour grapes?? :pot:

 :imaposer: :imaposer:

not at all, just a shit article. Thats all.

The prices for the 2009 KTMs:

990 Adventure      R 142 000
990 Adventure R   R 146 000

since when has the 990adv gone up 20 grand. The last time I looked (3 months ago) the 990 adv was 125 grand. Is 142 000 the new 09 price and if so they have to be kidding.
