What gets me is how come a race ready bike can be compared to a stock standard bike,no WP shocks nada and yet the race ready guys feel threatened by it,that amazes me,bike is still new and BMW is attending to its teething problems, some other brands must maar go and see the ATM lol. BMW has thrown a rock in the bush and all you see is orange jackets wappering out of the bush, are u guys afraid of the stock standard 800 kicking ass...lol

The bike is just a blank page, the rider is the writer, the road is the ink....

Kark..... :pot:I've dragged a few 800's, never lost yet. (Ask Malibu) The 990 with standard sprockets is quicker, the new one with 16T is even better. If you beat a 990 in a drag, the 990 rider is not really trying.
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

Took the KTm out on the road 1st,then swopped back on the 800 and did the same back,no drag and race just a quick test..and the 800 pull, the throttle control on the 990 that I heard of,well us Chuck Norris guys don't need to stand back, the 800 is just as electric/hectic.:-D

KTM will win if no-brainer performance is the issue.  The 800 will win if it is a long term money for value package approach measured...only the big dogs can piss with the 800 as we can see in this comparrison.  :deal:

There is NO way the 800 is quicker to 100km/h, maybe the 800's speedo overreads..... :pot:

So what you saying is that the 800 gets to 100 nicer than the 990 not necesarily faster ;D

No, no . You guy's don't understand . Deon took the 800 DOWN the mountain , THEN he swopped bikes and took
the 990 back UP the mountain .  ::)

Just for interest, there's an 800 GS with 60 k's on it at KTM Centurion for sale.Louis the techie guy has connections at BMW and scored this boney. The story it was a crate damaged bike he bought and returned it to new.How a bike gets gaf marks under the front shocks and a cracked bash plate whilst still in a crate beats me but they want R96 000.00 SA ronts for it .
I must say if you see marks on the 990's it was me drooling.

Rather compare the 800 with the AT - 990 is in a different league. Cappish  :xxbah:

I've been trying to avoid getting into this, but after buying Superbike magazine this month, I just can't help myself. I haven't had a chance to read every post on this thread, but here's my honest, un asked for opinion, in point form

1. You can compare a 800GS and 990. Stop saying you can't. They have more in common than a 990 and a 1200GS, that's for sure, and no-one ever has a problem comparing those two.

2. The article is not that great. I read it. I bought Superbike magazine to read it. I won't make the same mistake next month. There is way too little feedback on the bikes and a hundred questions unanswered. Sure, they are concluding it in the next issue, fair enough. But seriously. Why? Who the hell wants to read a review over 2 issues? Can they only dedicate a certain number of pages to DS (where the litre class superbike test took up half the magazine)? Poppycock.

3. Who cares which is better. Yawn. Let's find something else to argue about please, BMW vs KTM is getting oooold. Both are excellent bikes. I know this, because I have ridden both (maybe not extensively, but enough to get a feel for both). Both have their strengths and weaknesses. But did I mention it's getting old?

4. The 990 is great, but it's by no means in a "different league". gimme a break.

My 2c.
