Baboons, bikes, good people and a place called Baviaans
« on: November 13, 2006, 07:46:04 pm »
We left the Thursday for PE to enter the Baviaans from Patensie, from all the horror stories of truckloads
of 1200gs drowning in the
Baviaans we thought it good to start the Friday early to
have the hole day if things get the way people preach.

So the plan is Patensie side to the camp. Just after Patensie is this lodge we got drinks and deflated the tyres.
If you know Mieta please don't borrow here money, if Mieta is on
 this forum please pay-up.

Some of the pics is borrowed from Metaljockey.

Just started and his ass is getting a beating.

You can see where the road eventually ends up down theeeeeere

And so we end up at the water crossing and it's about 100/150m long with a very deep end and
fist size to soccer ball rocks, there is nothing easy about
this crossing and even experienced people get caught of guard.

Metaljockey stopped halfway to take some pics. Nardus got through and waited on the other side.
Me next.

Small amount of water in the airfilter, it was quite deep here with huge loose boulders.

Next was Poepoljack and these pics was taken on quick setting, he went to the right and right into a
huge hole but saved it beautifully. He really did well to recover
from that and still cross on the 650, it's a awesome
bike and just show what can be done on smaller bikes.
Look into the background the Mrs is still approaching, this is
how fast this happened

Metaljockey on his way.

See a orange KTM's can go through water.
Metaljockey,Poepoljack,Michnus,Nardus

Next crossing was shorter and had a slight bend so you could not see the end. Just playing

Nardus going for a huge spray

Metaljockey going, and then decide to do it again just for the hell of it.

I tried to beat Nardus's spray but could only manage this.

Even the cameraman got wet :P

Next morning after, some people had way too much to indulge, won't mention names but it lasted till early morning.
And Gideon and Groenie arrive around 3 AM, after they travelled at 100km/ph

We decided to go ride a 4x4 route over the Langkloof to Joubertina, if it's a 2 or a 4 rating I am not sure, but it was quit
technical it took us the best part of 4 hours to cover the 80kms.
The scenery is just breathtaking beautifully, we did not
take to many pics there was to much to see and you had to concentrate.

Early morning in the camp, it is a really stunning place. We can go again.

Not far from the camp is this short pass and sharp switch backs.
Rene the Canadian world traveller and Gravelmad came with,
he rode so fast I could not get a pic of the man.
But surely one of the funniest people I have ever met.
Nardus was also to fast on the KTM so I missed him as well.

If you look closely you can see the bike and road snaking down.

It is difficult to understand that there is such big open spaces left, and we have the privilege to ride their and enjoy this.

Rene enjoyed the ride he admit it was a bit technical for him, but he really stuck it out, and it was a absolute pleasure to have him with us.

Metaljockey doing the balancing act on the 1200Gs.
It just gives me goosebumps to see the bigger bikes going up
inclines like that, especially with a good jockey

Mr Jack doing extremely well on that low rider 650

Mrs only had a few parking lot falls nothing major but she manage well, she was to tired to ride Patensie back with us and decided to go back via Uniondale and Willowmore.

Metaljockey's home made GPS

And the end of that adventure

We wanted to take the same route back after having lunch at the Assegaai lodge but decide instead to go
through Patensie again, because it's such a interesting
road and the water crossing we can play a bit.

As bad luck would have it the BMW of Metaljockey, luckily, decided
at Patensie's pertol station the pertolunit will stop working.
After trying everything we know about nothing on electrics, Metaljockey booked into the Patensie hotel courtesy of BMW on-call. They dropped a new BMW car the next day for him. But he still missed the spitbraai and the ride through the Baviaans again, verdomde bike

We arrived at the camp with allot of jolly people. Ama ride started with the oil cans and soon many tried the skills thing.

Mr Big and Mrs Small, Gideon, Zonkel and I am trying convince Zonkel his fairies wings can beat this fast.

And every thing must have formalities that have to be done. Kaboef eventually won the bag that Harold (Crackling) from SW-MOTECH sponsored to the bash.

Groenie is trying his best to keep that drunk tree upright

The next morning on our way back home, just outside the camp Mr jack got a puncture, David the owner of the store was nice enough to help out.

See the happy face, and that's still on the way out.

It was a memorable weekend with good people and we had huge amounts of fun. You don't meet people like Boj everyday
she's a wonderful person. So the same for everybody
else, it is rare that you get so many like minded people together
and they just get along as if they know each other for years.
Thnxs to everybody we really enjoyed meeting all of you
