This is a quick report of a trip from Pietermaritzburg to Port Edward and back.

Been a 600km trip and only having one day we decided to leave Hilton at 7am and ride to Richmond by tar  :-
Not far over Umkomas river left on P 113 Short cut to Highflats
Left on R612 17km to Jolivet
Right on D20 and the fun began .I had ploted the route using garmap 2008 and once in this area you dont want to get lost. Roads were a bit to well maintained and populated for me as I
tend to wave at prity much every one we pass so as not to offend the locals .

We stuck to the route which included a detour down to the river out the other side I was not able to find a route over the Mzimkulu so on coming aout the valley we found out that the P68
was tar 25km  to Umtentweni . Took old main road to Port Edward . Had lunch at The Lighthouse
and meet WD lighthouse keeper Who took the time to chat . Thanks for that allways nice to Know we not the only finatics.

By this time it was about 2pm and the wheather was closing in.
The plan was to go back on different roads but the same area but by the time we got to umtentweni the rain had started and time was not on our side.

We rode to park rynie left on R612 to Ixopo Richmond and home 80% of the time it the rain.

Home by 6.30 total distance 597km  way to much tar and sitting down for my arse.
But thats the joy of adventure riding nothing ever seems to go as planed.
