WC-Ride up ,

 Pistonpete , Andy660 , Powerflow Justin , AntonW , Go Girl , Bradley`s

Thursday

We had a really good ride up.
Cape Town through Bainskloof , Calabash Breakfast, then on to the R355 to about 50Km short of Calvinia and left on some farm road/two spoor.

Andy660 & Bradley

Somewhere on the R355

Bradley

This joined up with the road going South to the Doring River.(Two spoor , a must for other rides, not technical , but quiet and the flowers seemed brighter in colour here).
South through Botterkloof Pass to the Moedvelore Pad,(and all the gate opening and closing) and as reported before , a very scenic road.

About 30km before Nieuwoudtville , there must have been a lot of rain , with all the remnants of thick mud spoor across the road.

Here Bradley his a big puddle , pity so far , but my cell phone is all I have

Go Girl hooked some dry mud ruts here and nearly came through the closed gate

Mmmmmm , and the there was the GS800 that ran out of petrol , 5km before Nieuwoudtville, luckely there was a Yamaha 660R at hand to tow it in.
( with Leftless`s towrope)..Someone please post the pic ?
And Go Girl`s ktm950 also ran out of petrol 3km short of the town, we filled up and went back with a bottle of gas for her.

Finally we  made town at Dusk.

We had booked an old but clean house called Greylingshof from Tanie Tiaardt @ R150 a head and she had booked us supper & Breakies  at " Rooidakhuis" 500m down the road.

After all some 450km , Pistonpete drops his bike under the carport at the back of our rented house while dismounting , :imaposer:

We got cleaned up and were off to supper down the road.

The food was very good and the owners very friendly.Rooidakhuis is a B&B and is a beautifully restored Old Police Station made of Sandstone Blocks

The cells at the rear of the house , now used as store rooms.

We got some "Refreshing drinks" at the Hotel 100m from our house.Had supper and went back to our house for some good laughs and stories before getting some shut eye  for the night.

Nieuwoudtville is well known for its many variaties of its succulents , this beautifull specimen too.

Friday

We were up bright and early and had B/fast at 8.It was cold and there was frost on the grass and ice on a bakkies vinal boot cover outside Rooidakhuis.

Then we were off , on the tar to Loeriesfontein , but first the Waterfall , about 10kms out of town. Its well marked on the RH side of the road and quite a site.

And 20 minutes North down the road we had a strong side wind ,but 70km later we were in Loeriesfontein getting petrol.

The big Boerbul in the back of a farmers bakkie , check out the size of its paws.

We had to double back 10km to our next little dirt road which took us all the way across to Garries. We took the Kliprand road.(wasnt the road on my route, but was a good road all the same)

En-route , on one of our " Smoke breaks" We met Trokkie and Eisselbank , (dis nou twee baie lekker ouens) It didnt take long before we were laughing at the two of them , most of the laughs were in Eisselbanks court , quote " Waar die V-K is my tent"

Which had fallen off the bike some 20km back.Unfortunately they were headed a different route to us , so we parted at the T-Junction.

We went Left to Garries , but not before we went down another two spoor road( A real gem of a road.)

It had a good few gates in it , but the flowers and mountains were absolutely awsome.
The road surface wasnt too bad , no sand or anything hecktic like that , some wash aways , but lots of twisties and very picturesque . My idea of what the Promised Land should look like.( except all the gates)

The Orange Beast , Dogpach is his name

Pistonpete and Dogpach his beast

Bradley`s our own (Topless Dancer)

My trusty Steed

Go Girl on one of the many water crossings

Powerflow Justin

Bradley , just before he drenched me !

Firstly....Andy forgets that he CRAMMED his boney next to mine under the dak & i dismounted the other side...& took the bike with me! S'tru
Pic pls.

Secondly...he's making out the washaways were insignificant....unless you consider approaching small dongas & bottoming out the front shocks at least three times....the road was such (& the pace) that no alternative was there but to gas it ;D
There tracks gave their own rythm & so the pace was pretty quick considering there were six of us & plenty gates. We worked so well together  What a pleasure to ride with people without ego 8) :)
I need to go back there :deal: ;D

Friday more

We were having such a lekker ride , that we didnt take many pics after this.

Pistonpete

We got to Garries only to hit a road block almost in there town , the young policeman askes me " Licence and registration " I reminded him this is  South Africa , not America. He looked at me confused then asked me for my license which I gave him.

We had a bite to eat at the Hotel , although clean , the food tasted like plastic.

Here we bumped into Rick on a KLR ( new spec) 60 yrs old , Bradley told him he could joins , I was a bit scared he might slow us down , but after the first 5km , we found him pushing us hard into the corners , especially AntonW , turns out he raced enduro`s in the 80`s.

From Garries we headed back inland  , over the mountains and back down to Springbok. This road turned out to be very rocky and bumpy at first , then fast , very sandy in places , to two spoor and sheep sh-t.with a road that must have crossed the river 20 times or more.

If you want to do a lekker technical road with all sorts to offer , this is a must.
Done a little slower , its a good road for all riders , lots of water crossings , here Bradley wet me from head tp toe , as I causously approached the water , he came flying past , Whala , sop nat !

The last water crossing , everyone under estimated , and we all went under the crossing and got very wet.

We were running late and decided to do the rest of the trip to Vioolsdrift on the tar.

The last 20km from Vioolsdrift to Wildthing Adventures was into the blinding Sunset and Dust , it was near impossible to see where we were going , but the thought of a cold beer so close kept us hanging on the cables looking for the Wildthing sign.
Ric , KLR , 2900km on the clock , riding way too fast , didnt see the corner and ploughed his bike off the road into the rocks.Believe it or not , he still managed with our help to pic up his bike amd carried on as if nothing had happend, and then we regrouped at the gate , and road in together.

That was such a memorable ride with good riders , fast , slow , wet and humourous , Hey Bradley , I owe you some water.

Next pics.

Raw !!

The riding terrain looks almost as much fun as the company  ;D.

Wish I could've been there. Keep the RR coming Andy.

Wayneh....you and your ride would have been perfect for this terrain...custom made for the job! :thumleft:
Lugging the big adventure bikes around those tracks was a challenge yet still doable :)

The nice pics of the loose hill with the sharp dug out corner explains the place only partially...there were many other heart thumping moments ;D

I reckon you have your hands full right now anyway being where you are :ricky: 660R might have sent you the tour company details already?

For the Dogs who want something different this place offers unparralled riding opportunities :paw:
