Waterberg --SAND --What Sand.
« on: August 17, 2009, 07:42:33 am »
A few of us left for the Waterberg this week end to stay at a tented bush camp on a Game Farm on the top of one of the hills. Three of us left by mostly gravel to our destination--The Cage took an alternative route with three people and our food etc for the week end as there was NO shops close by or places to eat at.

The tracks on the left side of the twin track that Kykdaar decided to Criss Cross ::) Stopped his Bike in front of me-did a hand stand on the handlebars-looked at the front light--sat down on the saddle--got off his bike and gave us all a bow.

I gave him a 10 out of ten and HP2 gave him a 11 ???

Kykdaar and HP2 trying to figure out WHY only a 11 :(

Smoke break.  For THE Smokers.

The WATERBERG.

After i had picked up a wire that was left on the road and decided to get stuck on my back wheel. Luckily when i saw it i pulled in the clutch and locked the back wheel. Took only about a minute to get it out and on the road again.

Plenty of Game along the Route ---As usual and even some closer to home.

Arriving at the Bush camp.  Our Accommodation.

Our bikes resting till the next day when we would return.

The view from the Boma.

The Sun starting to make way for the evening.

Something about a BUSH fire and good fellowship--and Lekker kos.

I did however decide to lengthen the route as all who were riding were competent SAND riders --and if they were NOT then they are NOW.

Unfortunately i did not see ANY sand for some reason or the other--Maybe it was because i was enjoying the scenery and the ride so much.

Thank's to all who came and see you all on the road soon.
Hope all of you have de stressed and are ready for the concret Jungle again--I know i am.

Ps. We did find one lewensgevaarlikke bike with a 1200 GS parked along a road under a tree asking the way out to a camping spot---seems that they had had Enough of the Sand i was looking for.

Thanks for a great trip Blazes, it felt good chilling in the bush under those clear skies.

A reasonably eventful few days for me -

The night before the trip whilst packing my bike I discovered, I filled the IMS tank to capacity from some jerry cans only to discover the fuel pissing out of it. Had to drain the tank, remove it and refill on the workbench until I found the cause - a small hole probably caused by a little stone that got wedged in there at some time.

The first few kilometres of the trip whilst still recovering from my late night, coming around a corner I suddenly found myself facing a sand tweespoor and after misjudging the entry and clipping the side wall - that was all she wrote and I had a spectacular dismount ;D. No damage to the DR or me - soft sand falls lekker :thumleft:

Said to Blazes that he should re-name the route the "hart and poepol" ride because the sand gives both a good workout. Luckily I settled down quickly and actually began to enjoy the challenges of the route.

At one stage I looked up and saw Blazes with the camera further down the road. Knowing that he normally chooses his camera spots with some devious purpose in mind, I was not surprised to crest a little hill and to be confronted by a stretch of very deep and loose stand :o. Nothing to do but to aim straight for it and gas it - when I opened my eyes again I was on the other side ;D

Fantastic riding with you and HJ again and spending such a great weekend in the bush :thumleft:

Good ones, chaps .... saw a long neck animal between the trees ...how about long haired cats in the bush at night or those dogs, with skew legs who laugh a lot .... did any of them "pee" on your back wheel.

Only heard some jackals in the night. Always afraid of leopards, as you will not see one until it's jaws are firmly clamped over your neck ;D

I hid behind the tent screen flap for the night, but one of our companions rolled out his sleeping bag and slept under the stars next to the boma - luckily he was still in one piece  :thumleft:

Super to be able to ride with some old friends again and enjoy the Great outdoors and just forget about all the crap out there for a day or two.

From now this ride will be called The Hart and Poepol run.

The ride Home will be called the Never ending Road.

It was quite a shock to my system and totally destroyed my previously held belief that I am immune to taking a dive  ;D

Blazes, publish that photo of the big sandpit to help restore some pride :mwink:

Again M, thank you so much for an awesome weekend, the riding was fantastic, the TANK behaved itself impeccably, amazing how well these big bikes work in the rough stuff, as long as you have the momentum working for you.

It was great getting to know you and your family better and also getting to know Kykdaar better.

I do now have a nasty cold for my sleeping outside, but i maintain, you sleep inside 4 walls and a roof every night, you have to make the most of a beautiful starry bushveld night when you get the opportunity.

Looks like a great ride, so sorry we missed it.  If I had been there, Kykdaar would have had some competition doing hand stands in the sand ;)
