I'd also like to find out where the Italian POW "village" near Barrington is.
I went to this place in about 1986 when doing the old "National Hiking Ways" Outeniqua Trail. As far as I remember, it was simply a row of 2 or 3 houses on one side of a short strip of tarred road (with street lights etc) surrounded by forest. Some of the houses had friezes (little pictures) painted above a dado rail around the walls, which were apparently a big deal. The "village" in the forest was well worth visiting.
I think it was near Karatara forest station (maybe even part of the forest station now). I can't find the old Outeniqua trial map (I thinkt here was one done by Peter Slingsby) or any info about the place.
Anyone ?
