Only guys who want a blue blooded bike with excellent power and handling in sand will buy an 800 GS cause they like a bit of LEWENSGEVAAR. Anybody can ride a KTM.........but it takes skill to ride an 800 and come out the otherside alive :imaposer:

The 800 is better. It's cheaper, got better power to weight ratio, more midrange torque, way lighter on feul, does'nt eat back tyres and less expensive to service, has a beaut sounding engine and NOW WAIT FOR IT................................. it COMPLETELY OUTSELLS the KTM 990. :pot:

There are 2000 KTM riders on this forum, sitting at their keyboards, twiddling their thumbs, trying to think up a clever retort right now.

And I am one of them.............it is total bull.... because them that is just the opinion of some journos. I don't disagree that the BMW is a great bike but it is new and like all new things it has the novelty factor. The new 990R is a refreshing addition to the KTM fold. BMW's are very popular here and good value but I would rather pay that bit extra for my KTM. I think it's down to personal choice at the end of the day and them polls are just a marketing ploy or a way to fill the pages of a magazine.........and we all buy them to read!

Dis 'n nice bike as hy ry.

How many bikes did it compete against ? Smaller / bigger bikes ? The ds market may have good sales (that is debatable as it's prob more the commuter market) but the choice of ds bikes is dismal to say the least. 990 and 950 same for almost 10 years now, same goes for Japanese bikes and big 1200's are evolutions of the previous model with some even been discontinued. Even the discussions are the same over and over (800 / 990 /1200 and the stoneage 650's). Yawn I'm going to bed now  :sleepy2:

Jinne ouens, Kalmeer!!

Hulle verkoop so lekker want hulle ry so lekker....op die teerpad... :imaposer:

Well I do not have much to say about the article in question,But one thing is for sure.I would rather own a BMW that had issues than live with a KTM that has issues.........

It is so good you got a 650!
I just read a article in Superbike comparing the two and one comment was the suspension was to soft on the KTM..........what a TOSSER........... its adjustable to suit your needs. And they travelled for a week with a pillion and she said she feared she may fall off the back...........anyone who rides a sportsbike with such a small seat must of laughed at that comment. Because my ex wife used to ride on the back of mine with no problem and she was not skinny........maybe the rider sat to far back!........LAUGHABLE.

Yawn! :bueller:

No no Pom, wake up! You can't go to sleep now. This is such an exciting discussion. The idea of comparing bikes and brands is a whole new concept, never seen before, and not to be missed!!!

:laughing4: :laughing4: :laughing4: :laughing4:

This forum seems to have two classes of members: Those who ride their bikes: Who cares what it is as long as it does not break? And those who endlessly discuss bikes and articles about bikes and accessories and their last dealer visit, service, repair ... wara wara ... wara wara.

It gets realy cool when the one class starts making fun of the other :evil6:
