XT660 Z - Owners group

OK, so my Tenere now has 3500 k's on the clock and is having it first niggles.

The battery is not getting charged when riding, thus after a few k's the engine management light comes on and the bike dies ... only to be started again if you jump start it (obviously this doesn't last long) or the battery get fully recharged back home!

Nobody (not even the d(st)ealer seems to know what to do ... they are looking into it hoping to fix it before my week long trip starting on Saturday (12 Sept 2009)

Will let you know of the outcome ... or you let me know if you had similar and got it fixed.

How long have the dealers actually spent looking for the problem???

It can't be that difficult to source a charging problem, not many components in the circuit.
Alcohol is essentially nature’s Leatt Brace – with it, you might not be able to move worth sh*t, but you can take a slam or two and be no worse for the wear.

Definitely something with that particular bike. I shipped my Tene and forgot to unplug the battery. When it got here a couple of weeks later, I put the keys in and it started right away.

Also, went for a ride yesterday after it finally stopped raining. Started with no hick-ups after 3 weeks parked in the garage. O, and it was parked with the GPS socket still plugged into the battery (seems like I'm quite forgetful). But still, no problems here

Good luck!

Love the desert Sand colour - such a pity only the blue made it to SA. Im sure they would sell more white and desert if they were avaiable.

Excellent machine!

Done 400k's with pillion (on tar) and it was like there is nobody at the back. The suspension didn't even drop a bit and the pillion was not the smallest of people!

Now with the  trip, I had those panniers and my camping gear on the bike and I even had some air time over a few of the bumps in the road. The only thing that took a bit of battering was the fuel consumption (4.6/100)
