Ha, KLR the speed king. Once got 147 km/h (GPS), fully loaded (saddle bags, topbox, bag with camping gear) on those hard packed dirt roads around Bredasdorp with TW152/151 tyres. Could have been tar for that matter though.

On real tar going down a lekker downhill with a mean wind at my back I once pushed the speedo to 170 km/h on the West Coast road between Velddrift and Yzerfontein. Could have been a genuine 155. Don't think you'll get more from the Mule but I suppose it gives you the same feeling of living on the edge than a KTM or big BMW at 200 plus.

It cruises quite comfortably between 120 and 140 on the speedo but 120 on tar is possibly its preferred cruising speed. More than that and you continuously find yourself hooking a non-existent sixth gear.

219 ??? Terminal velocity yes, maybe

Got no farken idea (and actually also don't care) how fast the DR goes. Don't own a GPS. Speedo sometimes shows 150 if it's flat and no wind but anything above 110 gets painful after a while.

So I say fast enough ;D

This thread is about as relevant as those superbikers dragging it out just outside Oudshoorn.

219km/h out of a 1200cc motor, quite pathetic actually...any superbike with half the capacity will beat that!

Travelling that fast on our beautiful country backroads is just asking for kak. Most likely not for you but for some poor farm workers kid innocently crossing the road.

On my 06 ADV i got 198 on tar - the ADV screen is set at its highest to accomodate the GPS.  On gravel did 166 and chickend out.  Will try this weekend to twist the ear of the new pig a bit - it feels faster than the 06

I have an 09 adventure ,and the best on the GPS is 202 km/h , but when you consider almost full tank and a + 100 kilo vet gat on board its not to bad. I don't like to bend the ear balls to the wall , but I find that if the conditions are right you can sit at 160 km/h all day on the 1200's it just seems to be the right speed to put you in the zone.

Did 240km/h last week-end on the FJR - speedo and NOT GPS, after doing a two-way reccy on a very quiet road, with a mate riding 1km in front to ensure no cars, etc - just to see what it was like - and can honetly say that I will never do that again, and it was no fun at all - just trying to hold on was a mission - these superbikes that travel way above that cannot surely be enjoying it at that speed, and are merely holding on to get an adrenaline rush I suppose - just me maybe, but no thanks ???

240 on the old FJ when I still had it.

I took the 1100 to 195 (speedo) once, but that was on the way to an accident where my wife wrote the car off. Funny how people get out of the way when they see a big red pig coming at 195 with its hazards on...
;D

The 1200 I've never taken to 170.
Just not interested.
;D

Last year on the Karoo trip me and Surf did a side by side on one of the Karoo gravel highways up to 179 on the GPS.
That got the juices flowing...

;D ;D ;D

229 kmh on my speedo is the best I've seen, I've never checked the GPS speed on the unit or the track afterwards
