Fuel In Lesotho
« on: September 28, 2009, 04:19:44 pm »
As part of a trip I am planning, I will ride from Sani Top down to Quagga's Nek border post and on to Matatiele. (See route below). Does anyone know if there are any places along this route where I will be able to get fuel.
When in doubt...grab throttle!!!

Fuel is almost always available at Mokhotlong, very erratically at the Chinese shop at Sehlabathebe and always at Qacha's Nek.

Also normally can get fuel at Thaba-Tseka, but that entails a bit of a detour and is out of your way.

What is this route like? It appears to be quite moderate based on what I could see in Google earth. I plan to ride from Durban up to Sani pass on the first day and then from Sani Top to Matatiele on the second day. Is the feasible?

Any input, including alternative suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A pretty good road the whole way, have done this trip before from Pmb, up Sani, down Rama's pass and back to Pmb.

Only got home late, but Sani to Matat should be no problem in a day.

Remember the Lesotho border times are now 06h00 to 18h00, which makes it easier than before.

We might be doing this trip on Friday, depending on the weather, but will sleep over at Sehlabathebe and carry on home to Pmb on Saturday morning.

Aah come on Essbee, we all drop our bikes every now and then.

Just get back on and ride, you managed Rama's Pass the day before on the 950 no problem.  :thumleft:  :ricky:

Sani was a bit hectic last week. Had to rest 3 times otherwise I would have taken a tumble.

Apparently that grader near the top has broken down. 3 months ago already.

But a mate took his 800GS up non-stop.  8)

Clockwork - I was there in Dec 2006 - fuel at chinese shop was okay but fuel from an actual garage was crap - created all sorts of issues - good luck. I take it u know about disconnecting the brown wire on the 950 - for bad fuel.

I wont be riding the 950. Will be doing it on my 525. The idea is to do Durban to Sani Then on to Matatiele and off to Coffee Bay via Rhodes. Then we do the Wild Coast Eco Trail . 10 Days of riding :ricky: :ricky: :ricky:

Why not exit at Ramatseliso, much "nicer" trip to Matat than Qachasnek.  Sani Top to Matat in one day is no problem, just start early.  Ramas closes at 16:00, if you miss it you have to go Qachas, open till 22:00.
