TOLGATE DISGRACE
« on: October 04, 2009, 03:50:22 pm »
Travelling back from Botswana today I stood in the lane at Carousel Toll-boom to pay my R33 with convulsion simmering, paying the same fees as the cages. In front of me was a H2 Hummer (the big one) towing a moerse Caravan and a boat. What did he pay? Only R33. Anyone with news on the consession promised to motorcyclists by Tolkon after the FF+ took the matter on?

Ask old Simon Fourie, he was supposed to take the matter up with the relevant authorities on behalf of the biking community.
NOTHING HAPPENED.
There was this huge petition regarding tollgate fees - again NOTHING HAPPENED.

Maybe we should get a 100+ bikes on a busy road entering all open lanes at one of the busy tollgate plaza's and all pay with R200 notes, take your time getting your money to pay and lets see if they can supply change. The first few bikes will go through and the rest will 'block' the highway waiting for change. This will surely upset cagers and the like, maybe we can get some attention regarding this unfair unconstitutional matter

What can happen if you skip the tollgate, will they sue you for the R33? (if caught). I agree, I don't want to advocate crime, but something needs to happen.

Try the tollgate from Groot Marico to Rustenburg. R50. That one won't see me again.

When I travel somewhere and back, I always pay the toll gate in one direction and then I try to skip everyone on the way back, Therefore paying only half, which I think is fair.

They never do anything, I have not yet received a summons of any sorts, and I have skipped one or two... I usually just gooi mielies through a closed one!  :pot:

So n paar jaar terug het n paar van die kaapse ouens dit gedoen by die Hugenote toll plasa.   daar was n day jol by die crazy dogs in CW en gahos by die plasa.   soontoe groot note en terug kleingeld.   dink hul het die tonnel terug van die paarl gesluit weens die opeenhoping.   maar soos altyd het daar niks van gekom nie.   in al my lare het ek nog net 1keer daardeur met die bike gery.   was n freebee 1aand laat van die cobra af.

Paying toll when on my bike sucks!
I see it all the time, huge 4x4s towing ski boats pay the same as me.
Skiet sometimes but I don't like breaking the law.
The one between Kaapmuiden and Malelane has no alternate route, you can't take the bike through Kruger park and the only other way is through Swaziland (ridiculous!).
Is there not some law that says there has to be an alternate route available?

The law was amended & alternate routes are no longer mandatory

One-off protest action achieves nothing
It only lets the authorities know that you're unhappy
Unless the disruption is recurrent & has an impact on local government, nothing ever changes
The SA twist is that if nothing burns, nothing changes

Don't see an issue here in the Cape. No biker in his right mind uses the dark, stinky and depressing tunnel 8)

Got caught behind some bikers doing the same when visiting Kroonstad over Easter weekend. We were in a rental and it took us 2 hours to clear the tollgate.

Not so fun when you get stuck behind it and personally don't think it will do much good. You just piss off cagers who don't know why people on bikes are doing it.

Luckily in the Western Cape the Alternative road that skips the tunnel is bloody marvelous!
