With the national bash coming shortly, more and more route planning treads pops up. After my "Kalahari sand made me jags" trip some members pm, and email me asking for tips etc. On that trip I merely pointed my bike’s nose in the generally correct direction and gave myself a few waypoints. No GPS or fancy maps needed. Just an AA road map.

I keep wondering about this “planning down to the last detail” kind of trips. Is it human nature where we want to avoid going to unfamiliar places? Or are we afraid to miss a cool spot (or bush pub) if we do not do our homework? SA is not that big. It’s nearly impossible to get lost outside the big cities. All (ok most) public roads lead somewhere. If I miss a cool spot I just go and look for it next time.

Who can explain?

I am talking about trips in SA not venturing further North in Africa
