When Coetzee Zietsman, my buddy from university days, contacted me and asked me if I would be interested in joining them on a trip to the Baviaanskloof and “Die Hel” I jumped at the opportunity.
I managed to arrange two days of leave at work, spoke to Hentie from BMW Hochland Auto, paid for my accommodation which was prearranged by the Woema team, and started counting the sleeps to 8 October.............
DAY 0:
Distance: 285 km
Route: Centurion > Johannesburg > Villiers > Tweeling > Reitz > Bethlehem
I rode through to Bethlehem after work, braving Jo’burg traffic on the N1 and N3, and just managed to stay upright in severe crosswinds on the Freestate plains. Stayed over with family, very eager for the trip which was to start the next morning.
