Lady's Slipper Tower, PE
« on: November 09, 2009, 07:58:32 pm »
Anyone have links to some info about it? I wanna go up there sometime in the near future, as the hike up lady's slipper in February was amazing. Want to do it by bike though :P. I know there is a road up to the tower, but I'm not sure where the entrance is. Any help, advice, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated :)

The entrance is on the Culturama (Longmore) Road. This road is between Uncle Freddies and The Gorge (trade post road).

The gate is always locked and you need to get the key from Telkom.

There was a forestry gate there and you needed a permit in the past to get through. (no bikes allowed).  The last time I was there the gate was missing but I think they moved it futher on past the tower turn-off
There are no short cuts to anywhere worth going!
Performance is paramount, niceties only exist if it doesn't affect performance.

Don't rush it, it's helmet time you need, not a destination. Take it easy.

As Bakkies said, The gate is on the Longmore Forest side, but it is locked.  No access allowed.
Something to do with issues in the past with hanggliders or something, not sure.

I do know someone who knows someone who might be able to get the keys,
but I wouldn't want to cause further issues with DS riders now also going up there...

If it's not broken - ride it until it is!

Hmmm. Wonder if it's walkable to the top? I think you'd get a lekker workout getting there, but the view must be something. I would consider a big old bolt cutter to remove the gate problem, but as Sakkie said, us adventurers have enough people (the minority thankfully) that think we're the rowdy Hells Angels type

You can walk up to the top from longmore forest side(or ride through the bush, but you may get arrested if you ride up), don't know the other side, I did it about 2 years ago, was lekker fun.  BigE should know something about it, they used to paraglide there.

Nee as julle van para's praat dan is ek die ene ore . I suppose they arrest because it's a nature conservation area (not that I'm there to cause kak like starting veld fires or poaching but I digress) and that I understand. Maybe I'll give it a skip and just play around in the Scribante Quarry instead :ricky:

daar is 'n stap roete van die anderkant af (see se kant). Los jou bike by Hibrae of The Tradepost.

Dis 'n baie sensitiewe situasie
Nou kyk nou net waar het daai hond loop lê!
