After Rene's presentation (thanks for arranging the event briv!) Scribble and I decided to find some alternate routes back to Somerset West. We first stopped at Penhill to cruise the neighbourhood and got distracted by a path leading into the veld. It soon turned into a sand gymnasium and Scribble got stuck, so we decided to rather turn around and save it for a rainy day. 
After checking out Penhill, the service road next to the railway looked rather attractive and we joined it at Faure station.
The railway forked and we kept to the left.
The left fork took us in a Stellenbosch direction, so we exited the service road and headed back to the Kuilsriver road. We joined the service road again at Firgrove station.
The road eventually was blocked by a farmer's gate close to the first Somerset West turnoff. We squeezed past along the railway line and joined the main road and headed home.
There's still some service roads left to explore - between Faure and Kuilsriver - the rest of the road between Faure and Stellenbosch. Expect a report on them soon... :twisted:
