Christmas lights are big up here in the north, they brighten the cold and dark and bring us some cheer in this, our darkest hours right before the holidays.
I went out and sampled some of the lights. It was actually fairly warm, about 1º to maybe 3ºC, which was a nice break from the really cold weather we'd had fpr most of November. These are all from my local area, and I haven't gone over to the next town (Palmer), a known hotspot of Christmas light activity!
Our local Harley shop is so very festive!
The local skating rink on Wasilla lake. There were some people out on the ice, maybe I'll dig my old skates out...maybe I'll lose 20 lbs.
OK, I know that we are
But don't hold that against me, please?
This is "OLd Wasilla". The houses are all original homesteader cabins and homes, most of them built by the owner, that have been moved to this plot of land by the library to preserve them. It makes for a very boring museum, not worth the trip. Go to the Iditarod museum instead.
The old Teelands General Store. This one has been moved twice, when I was a teenager it was located at a very favorable location, I bought may a coke (and sometimes ciggys) there when it was a store.
This is one of what be several thousand small espresso/coffee huts in southcentral Alaska, but this one has mountains and lights!
Just up the road from me.
A local B&B, a stone's throw from Gnomeland. We call it the "gingerbread house", the best lights in the neighborhood.
Sorta cheating on this one-the full moon rising over the Talkeetnas. This was my view on the drive home from work....a guy might as well learn to drive with his eyes closed, nothing to see here.
