Rocks blown by the wind.

When the flats are muddy the wind is able to push the rocks around.

The photos are one thing. Their articles are very good too (with excellent photos by their own photographers) in the magazine (National Geographic Magazine). Been subscribing to the magazine since 1986, have them all.
