RIDER MISSING NEAR CAPE TOWN
« on: December 27, 2009, 11:16:54 pm »
Cape Town Area...

Alton Fisher left his home at Diep River for a ride with his son on Saturday morning the 26th. They were planning to meet some other riders at 7am. He is riding a KLR 650.

They planned to sleep over on Saturday Evening and should have been back on Sunday afternoon. It is now after 11pm on Sunday evening and Alton's wife has not heard from him, and has not been able to contact him or their son on their cell phones.

If anyone has any information, please contact Patricia at o82 885 1429 or Rian at o82 496 4o45

Thank You

Do you know where they were supposed to be riding to ?

I have just spoken with Patricia again and she has confirmed that they are riding 2 up.

We are unsure as to where exactly they were heading - she says that Alton did mention the Cederberg.... Edit - I have just checked on the map and the Cederberg is within reach of Diep River Cape Town for a sleep over bike trip.

Any news yet????? :(
Trials are survivable. We must keep our eternal perspective through the tough times.

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.” (2 Cor. 4:8-9 NLT)

I have just confirmed with his wife that it is Alton and his son Ethan that are missing.

They were on the Cederberg Ride: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=42589.msg831749#msg831749

Edit:

They were travelling on a red KLR 650. Could the guys that went on the ride please contact Patricia at o82 885 1429? (Or Alternatively Rian at o82 496 4o45)

We are urgently looking for any information on when they left, direction of travel, where they were last seen.

If anyone could post the route taken during the trip, it will really help if someone can start searching for them like Manic said....

Lets hope that they are sleeping over an extra day without any cell coverage!!

Anycase, strongs and keep us updated. I think his wife must be going crazy by now.

Ain't there anyone in the Cape Town area that can jump on  a bike and start searching for them?

From the RR photo's they were with the group up to Oasis
There aren't too many route options if they headed straight back towards Cape Town
If anyone is planning a search effort then its best to coordinate it through a command centre, preferable the police
Any updates would be appreciated

Go Girl was on the trip and said that they went on to the Tankwa Karoo with MTB and MTG....

There is a guest house, but no cell phone reception...

We should hear something from them by the end of the day - I will keep you guys posted!

Not a very good idea before you know very well where they went missing (which road, which section).

I had customers gone missing in the Cederberg before and have some experience about how to organise a search.

For now / first:
Find out where last seen and heading which way.
Check with farms / settlements en route after the last seen position. (In my case a child in Wupperthal could ID the bike confirming than they had past W. and were somewhere between W. and Calvinia).
If they are likely to be missing in the Cederberg proper contact the accommmodation places like Cederberg Oasis, Mount Ceder, Kromrivier, Driehook etc. Explain the situation and ask if they can inform all guests which go out today (plenty 4x4 this time of the year) to look out.

I sincerely hope rider and pillion are in one piece and only stranded without fuel or broken down (it's a KLR ;D )

Unfortunately my experience with SAPS Clanwilliam was some sort of a "could not care less" attitude but things have hopefully changed since then.

BTW: My people forgot to fill up, ran out of fuel and had to seek shelter from exposure due to a frikken snowstorm coming down. They were found 10PM with the bike on the side of the road and them having broken into a farmhouse.
