Wanted BMW HP2 .. sorry changed my mind - heard kaak things!
« on: December 29, 2009, 06:43:28 pm »
Hi all Dogs..

I'm new to this site. I'm looking for a low milage (7500km and below) very good condition BMW HP2
Please if you know of someone sitting with such a gem and not being used let me know. I'm willing to pay
decent money and is not looking for a bargain. Either I've got a 2009 immaculate one owner R1200GS adventure with 6500km to swop with a cash difference payment...

I wonder where that gravel road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. (Apologies to Mr Frost)

Hi Kamanya,

I spoke to the guy yesterday. It is Jan Staal du Toit's old bike. Jan owns Country Trax wheremost BMW off courses are held in Gauteng. In my opinion Jan is very good rider what this mean his bikes takes a lot of punishment. Thanks for the help

Stem saam. As hy nou nog nie gebreek het nie sal hy seker nooit. Ook belangrik dat daar na die fiets gekyk is...

after 2 lengthy conversations yesterday with previous owners of HP2 bikes (one guy had 2 engines blow up and the other one had an engine and diff go (7500km) and this happened while being on a very nice adventure ride outside SA). They said they had almost no support from BMW and they where told it was because of neglect. What bullshit! The one guy was with 10 HP2's on a trip and 3 broke. These bikes are supposed to be bullet proof. The biggest problem is suspension that was never fully developed, diff failure and the engine that breathe dust and sand.

I'm very disapointed as my hart was set on one. Any comments!

For now I'm sticking with my trusty old stead!

well interesting enough both guys that gave me the facts about their HP2's bought 950SE. Sounds like the dog's nob. I was suprised to hear though that the HP2 is easier in the very sanding bits but on the fast sections nothing can touch it.

The problem is now that I need to make a complete mind change to a brand that previous was the "enemy". All the hooligans ride KTM!!!!!! Well maybe it is worth a peak into the dark side.!

Should  I really ask, are you good enough to exploit the HP2 to its known limits, sand or no sand? Or the SE, not many are, certainly not me, so you might enjoy either?

I won't say I'm alfie cox or Jan Staal but I can handle the big boys in a competent manner. I've been on a BMW Adventure for 3 years (55,00km) and did some awesome sole riding fully loaded in southern africa including many kilometers sand in Mozambique, around Lake Sibaya (following the dunes), up Sani, Baviaans twice and many little dirt tracks through SA.

The reason for looking at a more enduro style bike is that I want to explore the more technical parts that I won't attempt with the Adventure but I still want a bike to be able to do a couple of hunderd kilometers a day.

No issue, I just get grumpy sometimes (especially when my bike is out oif commission) enjoy it whatever you get...
