had a'80 R80/7 got her with 107000 km's on, the engine died 7 years later with 238000 km's on. never got serviced, or really not allot, did one timing chain. ran her everyday. did have the old airhead problem with leaking push rod seals, but that gave me new oil every once in a while! :thumleft:

I did 132 000 km's on my GS1100 in 32 months .No problems and I would say thta at least 50 000 km's were dirt roads.

My  09 1200adv only has 10 000 km's on as I do not have that mush time any more but I can assure you I will run it to at least 150 000 km's before changing .At this rate it will take another 12 years.

I wonder what a new bike will cost then.

Got a 650Dakar with 155 000 and a F800LG (LewensGevaarlik) with 78 000 km on.

A connection of mine have a 950 with 121 000 on the clock - engine still as is and going strong.

My '81 BMW R65 (airhead) has got at least 256 000km under her wheels. A year ago I did crank & gearbox oil seals as wekk as push rod seals.
Between owner number 2 we've worked out that I'm owner number 5. Owner number 2 got in about 1988 with 120k on the clock. He sold it to someone in PMB and I bought if from a guy in Mooi River who had bought it in 2000 from PMB. He said he saw the odo go past 100 000 or so he thought and he sold it to me at 30 000km.... best R9 000 I ever spent.

My R80G/s had an estimate of 165000km on it when I sold it. I am not BMW biased, but from what I have seen over the years the R1100GS 5 speed model seems to be one of the most reliable bikes ever built  :peepwall:

I very impressed with the 950 and wonder if the 990 will be able to run the same mileage.

My DRZ on the otherhand is getting a new piston at 18000km. The rest of the motor is still good though  :patch: but then again, the fact that it is almost a full enduro bike... mileage is not to bad and some do go more.

Surely some work had to be done to the motor?
My R65 needed new big-ends with less than 100,000km, apparently they don't last as long as the 800 and 1000cc versions. Might be due to poor maintenance from previous owner though. It smokes a bit at startup (like all airheads) but doesn't really use much oil.

The KLR is only approaching 40k, with a shim change at around 35k the only maintenance yet.

Gs d don' touch that motor until it drops you. Sweetness's Funduro, we had the shims replaced and intake manufolds replaced at +- 150 000 km. As long as you don't abuse it, it will last for ever. Ride it between 3000 and 5500 rpm and replace oil as often as financialy viable.
I replaced oil on the Funduro after every long trip, even if only as far as 1000km round trip, but find that on the Dakkie I'm more relaxed. Maybe every 2500km. I don't use expensive oil, mormal 15w40. Depends how hard you ride.
