Awesome report Zonkelnut  :D

The topic line reads really bad, sad news indeed for a DS rider

Does your wife have access to this forum, it might sway her thoughts to getting a bike herself and posting some cool reports. Worth a try
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing!

She can not, we have 2 beautifull kids. What about them? No, its not the bike, its that I do things on my own and not with the family. I am a loner and can not function 100% when with people.

I'll have to change. But because bike is a lone thing, it has to go.

But please everyone, but joyfull and happy. Not the end of the world. I will put up some other pics today.

For heavens sake Zonkel, if you go the family route get a 2wheeler for yourself!

And keep the TA for commuting.

Zonk. I'm in very much the same situation as you are.

The overnight/extended trips is out for me. I Ride on average once a month with forum members on day trips and do a Namib run once every two years.

Yes. Your adventure exploring/two weeks trips are maybe over for now.

Moderation might be the answer. 1 extended trip every two years with monthly day trips with forum members.

Letting go completely will not be the solution. Be aware that resentment might come into play and could play havoc with your relationship. I trust you are a better person than that to let it become a factor.
He who angers you, controls you.

Ditto with me, I gave up wingshooting to generate some time for riding - generally do 1 maybe 2 longish trips a year.  The art of juggling my friend - keeping all those balls in the air while remaining semi-sane.  Moderation will always be better than abstinence.  An unhappy family is one where the dad is not allowed to be himself (within limits of course).

Ag LITO. R50 will only get me a set of condoms for masturbation.

OK. Me and wify had a long chat and this is what she alows me to do, take note "she alows me": 1 day trip per month and 1 long trip (2 weeks) per year, as long as the long trip is not done over X-Mas. Better than nothing hey?

I'm not someone to play the field so I will have to comply with the new rules. So, this year, Leo, I will be able to take a 2 week trip with u and Xcaliber to Kaoko and for the rest, Shark, give me the dates, and I will be there. As long as it is once a month. SHHIITTT!!!!!

And so the koekie crumbles  ...

Thanks for the report and pics, those maps are already printed and up on the planning wall. :D

Zonkel remind your wife about the man she fell in love with, she was attracted to the adventurous anf carefree person, changing you will do no good for yourself or the family. Stay true to yourself. Compramise is good but don't kill your sprite, that will be more damaging to your family and yourself.

Zonkel,

Where are the rest of the pic's.
 I hope that Richard and I are included in the Koako trip which you mentioned?

Otherwise I will be very disappointed :(

I hope that you keep the bike and stick to the rules (okay break 1 or 2 small ones) but do not think that selling the bike is going to change life completely, most times it gets worse.  Thats my 2 cents woth.

Nice report, why no invite???????

Riding next to the Huab River. Very beautiful (S20 31 20.3 E14 05 01.4)

Quick pit stop (S20 34 49.8 E13 58 38.6). Here I realized that the thorn bushes punctured my water cans and I am losing water with a speed. And still got 170km to go. Was a bit worried. But it lasted the whole day. All 10 Liters.
But after this stop, I got to a not so hard uphill (S20 35 00.1 E13 57 15.7), on the GPS is says "Steep Rocky Slope". I did not think much of it and ye, it was steep but not Kaokoveld steep. But as luck got it, I dropped the Alp in the middle going up. Well, I dropped it 6 times while walking/running next to the Alp. I could not sit and ride it out as it kept on spinning. Even when walking next to bike it started to spin, front wheel hitting huge rock and poef. Down. Anybody that knows the weight of the Alp would know that after picking up the Alp 6 times, you are wasted. And in that Namibian Sun (45 Degrees), you tend to loose your enthusiasm. It took me and hour on that 50m climb. And all I could think of was that this is not the day I die.

More of Desolution Valley.

Another Stop. Most of the hard stuff nearly completed. (S20 43 32.5 E14 16 50.1). I was really tired and decided to take a road (S20 38 53.7 E14 19 00.8 ) that was going directly to Twyfelfontein Rock engravings. But the road was closed and I decided that I need to take it. It's getting dark and I am tiered. But this is where I learned that when Namibia says a road is closed, it is "CLOSED"!!!!!. It took me 1 hour on an 11 km strip. One mother of a rock invested mountain climb and 2 seriously shitty down hills. Rock and rock and rock and boulders and ... So, LISTEN when they tell you not to go there.

The setset colours only in Namibia. Perfect after a long days strugle.

OK. More to come ...

Yo Forty, sorry man. I wanted some time alone to clear the head of all the years trouble and sins. And becides, it is very few people that do not whant to be home over X-Mas. Sorry man.

Ye, regarding the Kaoko trip, you will have to speak to Leo and Xcaliber. They are running the show.

Dude without being funny or anything but I think you looking at the wrong side of the glass at the moment, let me put it this way we don't have kids and my wife will let me have all the alone time I want as she is the best ever but given this I still don't have time to do a day trip per month not even to mention 2 week long trip a year :dontknow:

This is the first year where we have planned a trip to Nam in Oktober and I have exactly 10 days getting there and back to the UK plus do all our riding we can do inbetween. I suggest the day trips you do best to make the absolute best of them and possibly getting mommy on the back and the kiddies a babysitter for the weekend

Just my 2 pennies worth if it is of any use :D

If it is in you, it is in you.

You use final too lightly - use last for a while - because after a while you will find a way. Just keep the balance.

Really enjoyed the report, thanks for the adventure.
