The KLR is in existence since the Dinosaurs, the GS range just after Adam and Eve, but the GS owners that pride on the title is the 1150GSA owners.
The Africa Twin definitely qualifies, as it's been a sale success, except Honda killed that one. Then the KTM950 can also be included, although still relatively young the 950 made waves and grew a devoted following, that will only get bigger.

The Dakar can go for the title because of it's love by RTW riders. Cagiva, although small sales still a robust bike that was made for adventure riding. The Yamaha XT in all it variants have done more ROW trips than most other bikes.

What makes a bike a legend and a true legend?

Sales or opinions, for example the 1200gs outsold every other GS model, the 1150GSA was low production and Boorman used it, and now every 1150GSA owner second name is Charlie.  ;) The KLR must surely outsold the lot of them in nearly 30 years of existence. Popularity, the bike that incorporates the soul of travelling?
