Guess it is true that you get what you ask for…leaving work yesterday when a mate asked what I am doing this weekend, I said I was going to go look for some mud to play in.
Well I found it !!! :ricky:
Leaving Centurion in the rain this morning I wondered whether I would be alone in this, but when I found JIMBO along the way on his faithful DR350 I relaxed, knowing I was not the only sucker.
Harties was a fine sight, lots of water heading into the river below.
NickyO was waiting for us at the meeting point and after waiting long enough to confirm that we were the only ones silly enough to give it a go we headed out.
We headed out on the west canal route and it did not take long to find mud…and the further we went the worse it got until eventually after a bit more than 30km we got totally bogged down in black snot. With little hope of going on we backtracked to the nearest tar road and cut across to Brits where we joined the north canal route back towards harties. Not that it was any better, black muck all the way along the railway tracks again.
All 3 bikes at a standstill, front and back wheels locking with all mud that had accumulated. (Thought that only happened with low wheel hugging mudguards)
NickyO had the worst of it with the least suitable tyres, but does this lady have guts. Every time that blue bike got tired and lay down for a rest she woke it up, kicked it’s arse and got it going again…respect!
We decided to head home via the dam wall to get another look at the spectacle and ended up in rush-hour traffic, everyone and their dog had the same idea. While waiting in the traffic JIMBO started chatting to a guy on a monster Triumph Rocket and we ended up joining him for a cold one before heading home and date with a dirty bike!!
The whole time out there all I could think was “I love my bike, and this is what it was made to do”. Lousy conditions and a useless rider in the saddle but the DR makes it fun and doable!
Thanks NickyO and JIMBO for a lekker day. :3some:
