Sunday was one of the few sunny days we´ve had recently in Lima. It´s normally supposed to be hot and sunny until May, but we are experiencing the effects of the “La Niña”. It´s similar to the El Niño, the well known climate anomaly caused by a reversal of the cold “Humbolt” ocean current running up the western side of South America. The warm water from the north changes world climate and causes drought in Africa & Australia, and heavy rains elsewhere, including Europe, Asia and North America. What we have at the moment is an unusually strong cold current instread "La Niña", which means its stays misty here during the summer, with heavy/good rains in Australia, South Africa and floods in the mountains of Peru. The Macchu Picchu railway line was washed away two weeks ago, in the worst flood in 50 years, stranding over 3,500 tourists at the famous Inca ruins.
Not that Bluebull2007, Mrs Bluebull2007 and 3drink need an excuse to go riding: Driedrink shed lots of moola on Friday for an almost brand new KTM990. This was after reading the now infamous “Who is keen to ride another continent?” thread. Seems I have a lot to answer for. > After sorting out the women in his life on Saturday ( Hmmm, Single okes loose in Latin America...need I say more? : ) he is available to grace us with his presence and take his bike on its virginal ride.
Are we going to see the dark and dirty side of KTM today?
Here it is standing next to our rather sad-looking 450EXC.
3Drink champing at the bit to go riding on his own boney at last! I must confess this thing is a beaut of note!
We soon hit the open road toward our favourite dirt spot.
D shows off her skills on the 450
What do they say about posers?
Its unbelievable how green the desert has become. Three weeks ago this was all black:
I love this shot, you can see the difference in height of the two riders. D really battles with the high bikes.

We cut some new trails, to the top of some hills/mountains, but it gets too steep ahead so we have to back track
D prefers to turn the bike around manually in the rocky terrain
Why does it always looks so tame in the pics?
This is D´s first steep hill climb. She makes it no problem! :hello2:
3Drink´s turn, this time with his slicks!
Speed is everything. Pissies will never be heroes. 8)
Hard to keep that victory smile off D´s face.
Coming down is hairy. Forget about the back brake, take it easy on the front one or you´ll face plant...
3Drink picks up a puncture close to the planned watering hole. It´s a good thing we are so close to beer.
He then shows me how to change a tyre without tyre irons! :eek7: "Just use your hands!"
Easy if your name is 3Drink! atch:
Now for the footpump. He is worried it might break so he uses his hands...
:laughing4:
Dis nou tyd vir n´biertjie to celebrate the tyre job and of course the Bulls latest win against the Lions. Yep, we might be 14,000km away maar ons bloed is Blou.
D goes for the more sensible option in the heat
We take in our surroundings.
A funeral procession comes by. Everyone stands in respect.
Did I tell you that the patches didn´t stick properly on the tube so we had to "borrow" a tube from a little bike? Look at the fit. :eek7:
Nooo problem, it´ll do the job for the trip home, albeit with a bit of a wobble.
We need to take it easy on the blind corners. The great day can end in tears really quickly in places like this:
But where we can see, we can really open up! :ricky:
Man, that WildDog jersey looks great on her! :drif:
We get back safely...
And let down our guard... Dont try hide it D, that was your bike! :imaposer:
Thanks for riding with us! :thumleft:
