To rimtape or not to rimtape?

I was recently told by Proaction KTM that I should put some rimtape on my bike to prevent scratches. What do you guys think? Any experience? Will it make a difference?

Then, if the answer is yes, do you get a less noticeable black or translucent variety.....?

You will now get abused from all the guy's on BM's and you will be told about bling and such kak. Me thinks it is only to make the bike stand out, a mate of mine has it on his 990 SE and looks good, but does not really do much in terms of protection!

I agree that it wont do much in way of protection. IMO the coating on the rim is about as good a protection you can get. The tape itself is quite thin.

The others can argue the aesthetics of this "addition"

It's gay, rimtape the name says it all.  


Five years ago the KTM oke's walked all over the BMW oke's for their clothes, bikes, hell, everything to do with the lifetstyle.

Today 5 years later the KTM troops, and the amount of poser influx into their ranks they have become the kings of bling, panties, toasters, dummies, rimtape the lot. They have taken up the sport of posing in huge numbers, the following is trong with them, cookies and all. Sit back and enjoy KTM shafting them over with the lifestyle thing.  

Prevent scratches, hahahahaa good one, the oke are a good saleman ye!

So they want you to cover your whole bike in rim tape?

To me it is all about the protection value (therefore my question whether it comes in black or translucent). If the protection value is questionable I'll steer clear thanks. I have to endure enough poser accusations from my friends as it is!

The KTM rimtape is thick & soft for impact restance but you can get clear thick uv stable stuff as well . The guys agaist rimtape & KTM tend to be old, set in their ways, unfashionable, conservative & worry about what other people will think

Its not for damage its for cosmetics.
Something that will damage a rim will also rip right through rimtape.

It just keeps scratches off.

just for the record i see in the may edition of superbike theres an article on how to fit "gay" tape to your rims  if u that way inclined....
use it dont use it.....
