This past weekend 2 friends and I rode to Steytlerville to attend the Woespoes rally. This is the annual rally organised by The Pielkoppe
Bike club and what a jol it once again was! The Karoo Theatrical Hotel is very ably run by two gay guys and is the only venue of it"s kind in S.A. and one of only three such "show-hotels" in the world. Well worth a visit and the riding for D/S in the area is amazing.
On Saturday 3 of us followed a semi 4x4 trail over the mountains to Patensie, where we turned off to the Baviaanskloof. To ride/drive through the Baviaans you now need a R25.00 permit, which we were lacking, but the guy at the gate let us through this one time. The road through the kloof
is in fair condition and as beautiful as always, although quite dry. The BMW1100GS got a rear puncture and this was fixed at the cave opposite
the shop by a couple of great members of the E.C. Titty Twisters. You guys are really great! We then returned to Steytlerville via the dirtroad that
runs easterly along the northern side of the Baviaansberge, to arrive at the hotel just in time for dinner[very good], a show by the gay guys, during
which Simon Fourie almost got attacked by a highly irate Diva Leyla! We returned on Sunday via De Rust/R62 to Stellenbosch.
