DR650SE Sidestand and Swingarm Issue!
« on: February 17, 2010, 08:40:27 am »
There has been scratches on the swingarm for a long time but now I see that there is a deep dent at the bottom. Worried that it will wear through!!!! Advice please?
Is this a common problem?

How bad is this?
How do I fix it?

You've got to find what it is rubbing against

documented on TT and ADVRider.
get a piece of black plastic garden irrigation hose.
slice down a side
zip tie on the foot of the sidestand.
have a beer and stare in awe at your handiwork

That's pretty severe :( As Ganjora says well documented overseas. Apparently caused by wear on the stand pivot. Maybe ask Lecap's advice on the integrity of that swingarm. Personally, I'd replace it. And also repair your sidestand! Good luck bro!

Looks quite bad.
I'd not worry too much about structural integrity as the mounting bracket of the sharkfin does add quite a bit of extra strength to this section of the swingarm. Would still look better to get it welded up. Depending on what the welder says just fill or cover with a plate. Find a reputable welder not just spomeone with a welding machine ::)

Also think the scratches and the ding / hole are actually two effects caused by different events (scratches - normal riding; dent - off)
