This is why WD's is useful to me.  I've never dealt with Ray/cytech and now, probably never will.

I'm trying to buy an Excel front rim for my 800GS. Everyone else I've spoken to tell me they don't make one that fits the existing BMW hub/spoke configuration.

Ray tells me he can get one. Price - 4K

I get the feeling he's a bit of a bullshit artist.

Any other ideas as far as the rim is concerned?

Great responses so far by the way.

contact Paul at PSP - pspracing@lantic.net I'm sure he can help... better yet phone him: 021 696 1891

he is a guru with rims - often gets "blank" rims from excel and then does the holes for the spokes himself. I am sure he can lace an excel rim onto your existing hub...

Cytech has nice stuff, but too expensive. Some of his parts are double the price.

Do your homework first, before you decide to buy from them.

I know Alfie Cox racing had a replacement rim for the 990/950 and think they could get for the 800gs aswell. Try them maybe?

Thanks Wes. I've already spoken to Paul and he will build the wheel for me but I still need to find the rim myself. Don't want to buy a blank if I can avoid it.

Ray knows his stuff has plenty experience in Africa trips and what works and what does'nt.Has also got many contacts up North if you heading that way but depending what you need if just parts shop around if also need advice he is good.A bit opinionated as to what he thinks, like for eg he says the only tyre to tackle the road north with is an Anakee but most think the TKC is best. But he has much experience and what is wrong with making margin all you okes who bitch and complain also make margin,I bet you do. :pot:

The Anakee is a great tyre to tackle the road north, my understanding is that Ray,s trips are ASAP so high speed tyre whenever possible, get the trip done as fast as possible.

Therefore Anarchy works.

He's quite knowledgeable, that much I can say.  Impression I got from him is that he mainly caters for people who has open budgets,  If I ever have to do business with him again I'd get a specified quote (VAT incl) and decide whether it's the way to go :thumleft:
ďThere is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:
I love not Man the less, but Nature more"

workmanship and spares availability is good.... but beware.

I thought I had a good relationship with him (R15k in 6 months) then I needed something quite urgently and got stung R4 000 for something I could have mail-ordered from Motorbins for R1 300... never gone back.
