The results only show 2 Club Adventure results... both quads! ???
If this is the case where are all the weekend warriors that wanted this class?

Nice going Splash, thanks for the report! Were the routes farm tracks or off piste stuff?

Plottie, where is your part of the report??

Sorry chaps, One of my partners is on leave, so now i've got to work for a change  >:D

We had a bad run. After all the good, I suppose I cannot complain too much

Riaan was away so it was:
1. Andri on the 250
2. Karl on the 125
3. Kurt on the 525 Quad

Karl finished 6th in his class
Kurt finished 6th in his class

We did however manage to seize both the 250 and the quad so there is some major work ahead before the next one on the 6th April
32% of the field did not make the full loops (DNF) - It was a tough one on the bikes and quads

Andri started 41st after the time trial. (Remember the TT was all classes and a 250 just cannot compete against the big 450's in this type of terrain - thick sand and FAST)
The AVERAGE speed in the time trial for the top 30 was close on 100km/h. That is VERY high !!!
Between the top 20 in the TT and Andri (41st) only a minute or two separated them

By the time Andri got to the first DSP (approx 50km) he had already gained 8 or 9 places. He gained another 2 by the time he got back to main pits (100km). He had just passed the second DSP (approx 175km) and was flying at about 138km/h when the motor seized up SOLID. The bike threw him 10m into a thorn bush. He was in tears. He was leading the regional 250 class for 2010 until then.

Kurt did exceptionally well considering all the repairs we had to do. His entire class suffered setbacks. He was 2nd in his class for 2010 until the disaster of this race

Lesson learnt - MANY !!!!!
The Kalahari sand is dangerous in many ways. Not only did the bikes (and quads) take major strain - it also clogged up radiators and breathers and many of the DNF's were due to seized and blown motors.
Jetting is ultra important. We have altered our fuel /oil mix and then jetting becomes so important. We will know in the next day or so, but I suspect we ran his bike too lean.

Will get some pics in the morning

I used to be indecisive, but I'm not so sure anymore

Mielieland Grand Prix stuff

Very high speed sections, thick sand in places and some really thorny bush twisties

Simple answer, actually 2 ....

1. Cost
2. Cost

To run a 2T team cost less than 4T. We aiming at class championships and not an overall

We running 3 race bikes and 1 quad
Take a stab at
a. Capex
b. Season costs to date

Then you have your answer !!!

Geez - sorry bout that one
Does any one know what sort of conditions (trail) was laid out for the new adventure section of this enduro race?

Same route as everybody else - just shorter. Only 2 entries and I think both were KTM 690's. Both finished.
Just 2? That in effect put's and end to that experiment, I doubt that the next race's organizers will want to cater for such a small field? This does not even cover the expenses for the prizes?

A certain team manager told the commission there were at least 60 entries just waiting out there and of course organisers saw $$$$$$$$$. I think a certain importer, the one with currently the only really suitable bike, also saw a marketing opportunity, and a very rare press release was issued. When the rest of the world is trying to cap off road at 450cc, here we are opening it up to 1200's

Mafikeng is next up and I can't see there being a big increase in entries. Somebody will have to convince me with paid commitments for at least 10 before we even think of allowing them to race the Lesotho Off Road in June..........

Agreed... same entry rules should apply for then as all other entrants... no rocking up on the day of the race type thing. That puts a lot of strain on the admin team at events. Also there are still a lot of competitors that have no idea of the cost involved in getting an off road event off the ground as well as the manpower involved.

Sorry I missed you. Got back and needed to head home in as much day light as possible. Hope you enjoyed the event. Would have stopped by if I had known.
Have bike, will ride.
