Had exactly the same problem with mine, problem caused by sparkplugs, replaced the sparkplugs problem gone.  Tell your dealer to phone Lyndhurst BMW, they sorted mine under warranty and told me that it is a known problem.

Not according to the service department when i took mine in.
I am thinking of just changing the plugs myself, how are they gonna know, if i buy the bee-em plugs.

After erading the various posts about problems with different bikes and problems with bikes in the same brand pool. I must add that maybe I am just lucky.

25000km up to date and the only problem I got so far is a blown headlight bulb.

And for the record I do not ride my bike like a brokeback mountain actor but more like a Amsterdam hooker....
Gewoontlik n@@i ek reguit aan op fyndraai.

I am fooked over oukes. I cannot believe what I am about to tell you oukes myself.

From the above it should be clear that the bike, after the fourth spout of sputtering and backfiring did not go back to the regular dealer but to an alternative BMW workshop. Got a phone call today from the alternate technician who had to sort out the sputtering and misfiring on my bike. Ouk told me that this is, just like you predicted Grootseun, common in cases where the sparkplug failed. He took out the sparkplugs and noticed one with a crack, replaced, tested and problem solved.

NOW I ATTACH THE INVOICE I GOT FROM THE FIRST DEALER THAT I TOOK IT TO (zero Invoice, just for the record).

Take the following into consideration here:
1.0 I complained about the sputtering before the 10 000 km service, surely this should have alerted the techie to investigate all the possible causes for sputtering.
2.0 Sparkplugs are to be removed and inspected for damage at the 10 000 km service, if faulty, replaced. Surely if this was done the cracked plug would have been removed and so to the problem.
3.0 Took it back there after I got back from Nam on the 9th of Jan, +- 2500 k's after the service - again pointed out to the techie that there was sputtering and misfiring. See Invoice below.

I am stunned. WTF?

You did a good job of obscuring Donfords name

As with PS and his KTM, mechanic is at fault, really, how many qualified bike mechanics is there in this country? :?

Michnus, I am the moer in. You pay good money for a good product and then they let totally incompetent amateurs loose to work on it. Wouldn't you be?

Koplamp, this problem is country wide, there are not many mechanics around anymore, just a few 'part changers'.
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

I mean okes. The problem, however I didn't know exactly what it was initially, appears to be a simple one. If the GS misses and sputters and backfires - one of the causes may be the plugs. Instead this guy went out to "prove to me that the problem was rectified during the service" and that it subsequently was my "imagination" that brought me to think it still sputters and backfires. I kinda got the impression the oke was "who the f are you to question me, if I told you I fixed it I fixed it - don't tell me otherwise or i'll clip off your brake fingers with my special german SS tool".

I had to suffer with the result of this incompetence for 2500 k's through Nam, not knowing if it was minor or majour. Would the bike last the trip or would I have to salvage it from the desert at my own expense. Thanks to this oke who couldn't give a shit to do his job right the first time.

I feel like clipping off his screwdriver swing'n, partfittin' finger.

Time to catch the DAKAR and relax.

At least you got an invoice kopklamp, when i collected my bike, i got nothing, I am not even sure if they checked the sparkplugs, on the way to work this morning, the dakkie surged all the way, it's goin for it's 10klik service soon, and surely the plugs will be changed then, pity i am paying for it.
