Some pics and a short report of our last race
Unfortunately I'm going to be out for a while due to a torn ligament from the Ermelo Toyota 400 :xxbah:
The boys are doing well - Riaan secured a 2nd place and Andri a 4th place in the 250 class (more about this at the end)
This keeps Andri leading the championship and Riaan moves from 8th position to about 4th or 5th
The event was held at the Omkyk Feesterrein about 40km north of Lichtenburg
The Pit area
Very nice layout and under the trees
Some teams were very well represented
Gavin Louw is cleaning up this season and lead the race from the start - Well done
That's him on the right
Riaan and Andri ready to go. This race is "mielie land" stuff - Flat Taps ALL THE WAY.
The organisers were a bit sneaky and threw in some tight tree and bush sections and some really horrible SLICK muddy sections as well. Apart from that - traction was awesome.
Unfortunely for quite a few riders there were a number of broken bikes ranging from seizes (a 2-stroke rider has to be careful in this type of race) to collapsed wheel bearings (IMO this is a lack of maintenance)
Race DONE !!!
Sipho, Our driver and cook - No team can compete on an empty stomach and he makes sure we are fed and watered
Like them or not, but these Kwats are also a work of art. The type of money that goes into them is amazing
Not many KTM's but they are making their mark :thumleft:
... and, of course - the reason why we do this
Due to the success of our Quad Silver class entry at the Ermelo National, (Silver Class is a 75% class - ie 300km) we spent a hurried 2 weeks negotiating with a new sponsor and have secured a new KTM 525 Quad for the balance of the season.
We have also negotiated and secured a deal with a workshop and maintenance sponsor and are busy finalising the terms and conditions. We are excited about securing a top national and winning race mechanic and his team. :ricky:
The bikes ran well and we were initially happy with their performance. Unfortunately Andri's bike engine is toast. It progressively kept on losing power in the last 4 laps and he had to keep it wound up in the last lap until it finally died in the pit lane after the finish. The damage that happened at the Ermelo time trial had finally taken it's toll. A top end rebuild has to be done.
Andri was lying second when the motor started failing. He then passed the leader who's engine siezed. This "victory" was short lived when his 250 then started slowing down. It's a pity, but under the circumstances, we are happy with the result.
Till next time :thumleft:
