This was taken about year ago when we went looking for caves and a place to camp. We had the waypoints and the GPS, but we never found either one. Would have like to do it on the bike, but company transport had to suffice.
Cachoeira falls

One Stop

The old bridge just above the falls.

It was blown up during the war, so they built a new one.

From Cachoeira we headed for the camp. In the right direction, but on the wrong road. Water everywhere.

Grass higher than the vehicles. Fortunately there are no lions around. In fact, there was no wildlife around.

You also don't see many vehicles in these parts. Mostly Chinese disposable bikes, so nature takes back what man had created very quickly.

A Local's Palace. These people are dirt poor despite the fact that this is quite a wealthy country with rich oil reserves and diamonds.

We came across this abandoned village in our effords to find the right road to the camp. Kinda spooky and I wondered why they had abandoned it.

The lead vehicle gets stuck.

Two locals turned up and inform us that the road ends about 50m further on. Despite the fact that we were driving towards the camp, we would never reach it. There was one huge mountain between us and the camp. It was getting late and it took us forever to get to this point, so we started looking for a place to camp.

We turned around and headed back. We found a clearing next to this mielie field and we started making camp, when the same locals rocked up there on a chinese disposable. "Not a good idea" they said. The owner of this field was bad news.

We were told to go and sleep at the next village, but we didn't know what to expect so we carried on. About 2 km past the village we notice a break in the bush and turned off. We made camp about a 100m from the road and behind some bush. We had no idea where we were, but it was getting dark so we had no choice, but low and behold, the next thing the same two locals pitch up on their bike and told us that this was a good place.

We were a bit suspicious of them following us and everybody wonered if it would not be a good idea to move again. ???We did'nt and later that night we heard the bike going past again. It was dead quiet here. I saw fire flies for the first time since I've been a kid. This was awesome.
Needles to say, we spent the night without incident and I think we all felt a bit guilty the next moring. The locals were only trying to help
