1983 trip on Canning Stock route, West Australia
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:16:00 am »
Read the following on the Airhead forum, just had to pass it on! What a trip!! Check out the videos as well! These guys had 41l tanks on their R80 G/S and R80/7 bikes, plus each carried two normal sized (20l ea) jerrycans as well. That's about 80kg in fuel alone!

"Some rare video footage & a trip report has been posted on the ADV
forums of a trip in 1983 that two blokes did of the first unsupported
Motorcycle trip along the Canning Stock Route in Western Australia.

It runs from Halls Creek to Wiluna, with a total distance of 1781 km
(1113 miles) it is also the longest historic stock route in the world.

There is no fuel, so the brothers riding a R80 G/S and R80/7 organised a
fuel drop at Well 23 (as do mostly all travellers).

The route covers the Great Sandy, Gibson and Little Sandy Desert.

Wonderful! One of the igniters of my love for motorcycling touring was an article in a 1972 issue of [ i think] Cycle Guide? about a tour through the Aussie outback. The article was called; "Birdsville and beyond"  No support, tough and lekker.
As ek jy was sou ek nie so gelyk het nie.
