Thanks XBB.

Hey my mate Valorie said it snowed in South Carolina last week?

What about Atlanta?

No snow, just farking cold.  Got to -10C.  We had freezing rain one day last week, which sucks and is scary to drive on.

It's all Val's fault, she left Kansas to get away from the snow...musta brought it south with her.
This her first winter in SC...she was pretty pissed off when it snowed. :D

Namibia is fine April/May. Might be coldish in the early mornings but nothing serious. A few rain showers but that's real OK. The evenings will be just right. Not as warm as it can get there.

Hi Jaq
If may make a suggestion:
From Cape Town, go up the eastern cost, do Baviaans, Transkei, I can join you for a couple of days doing the Sani Pass, sleep over in Leshoto. then do some riding in the eastern freestate(beautifull) sleep over at my folks.

Can then ride with you to Lichtenburg, a nother sleeping place for you and from there you can go north to Botswana and Namibia. Lichtenburg is about 80 km from the Botswana border.

Any and all dogs will be welcome at my folks' place and here if they want to go with.

Hope to see you, if not enjoy.
I'm sure you'l love it here.
Be careful of the words you say.
And keep them soft and sweet.
For you never know from day to day.
Which ones you'll have to eat.

Jaq, I've been thinking about this problem and had a look at the bike hire sites. It's scary expensive. On the other hand, these okes have to pay of the bikes, run a business and still show a profit.

I don't and see a possibility of visiting your end of the world someday. So here's the offer. I have a 1200 and a DRZ that I can spare for a couple of weeks. You can use it and I willl charge no rental fee, only milage. That way you are free to stop over for a day or two at spots that you take a fancy to, and not have to worry about forking out whilst doing so. I figure something in the region of R2 per km.

I stay in East London though which does not have international flights, so you may have to take a connecting flight or pick up the tab for transporting the bike to where you want it.

Hey mate that sounds great!
South African hospitality is really impressing me.

I am just finalising some work details in regards to when I can leave at the beginning of April, hopefully by the second week.
I will have dates by end of next week.
Typical the guy I share the shifts with is not coming back until end of first week in April.

It would be good if we could get a group together huh?

Lets see what we can work out as the weeks go by.

And thanks heaps for the offer to accompany me and let me stay at you and your folks place.
Much appreciated mate. :thumbright:

Metaljockey....mate....what can I say....you'll always have somewhere to stay and something to ride if you ever get to Oz.

Ummm....is the DRZ 400 not your ladies bike?

I saw her riding it in the wild coast pics yes?

Have you told her yet? :D

My thoughts are this...yeah I agree hiring a bike from a hire company is like...astro.
I know they have to make money...but too expensive for me for a month's worth of bike hire.

I will continue to look around for a Jap 250/400/650 thru ads and guys on the forum.
If I don't find something suitable I will be more than happy to take you up on your offer, probably for the DRZ 400, 1200 BMW a tad heavy for me.

The only reason I don't accept your very generous offer on the spot is that if your bike should suffer some major damage when I am riding it I will be mortified mate.
(Not that I would not pay to get any damage fixed you understand.)

So if I find something suitable, that I can resell after my trip...great.
If I do not find a bike before I arrive in RSA...I will contact you shortly before I leave and we'll have a long chat.

The price of R2 per kilometer is more than generous MJ...I will not forget and I want you to know I am really obliged to you for your generosity.

Lekker boet, thanks.

(Hope I got that right :D )

Cheers: Jaq.

Jaq i'm really glad the SA guys are helping you so nicely.
R2/km is a good deal for you aspecially if you want to stay 2 or 3 days at a spot.

If you need to stay somewhere in Port Elizabeth you can use my place for free. I've got a garage for your bike and a spare bed room. Its not fancy but its free.  :D

Possible change of plan here lads...

My GF Lin has expressed a desire to come with me and visit your country.

I notice that many of you guys take your girlfriends around on bikes...so I assume there will be no danger to Lin if she is riding with me in most of the areas you guys have done ride reports on?

I am talking about the Wild Coast, Sani Pass, places like that within RSA.

She has her own bike(s) DT 175 and ZZR 250 Kawa. So she is ok to ride herself if she has to or wants to.

She is worried that she will spoil my riding adventures if she accompanies me...so with that in mind I was kinda hopeful that if some of us guys take off for a few days or on the weekends when I am in RSA that Lin would be able to stay with someones wife or GF where I know she will be safe when I am not around.

We will obviously not wish to be a burden on anyone and are fully prepared to pay for our own food and stuff.

Let me know what you guys think.

Cheers: Jaq.

Adventurer has expressed a desire to meet and greet Lin and myself at Joburg Airport.
Anyone else who wishes to meet us (and join us at the bar for a drink for an hour or so is most welcome.)

So here are the flight and arrival details.

Qantas Flight 63.
Departs Sydney 4th of April at 10am.

We lose a day travelling to SA so don't worry if the arrival date looks odd.

Arrive Joburg 4th of April at 4.10pm in the afternoon.

Give us an extra hour to clear customs.

Cheers: Jaq and Lin.
