To buy or not to buy.HELP
« on: January 19, 2007, 03:34:05 pm »
I need some advice.Groenie can't give me an objective opinion as he drives a KLR.

I went on the 2 day Novice course with BMW Riders academy and learnt a lot and need to practise ,practise, practise.....

NOW I NEED A BIKE :D

But what to buy.Of course I got to ride the F650 GS.Awesome :blob7:
Compared to the KLR(Ou plaas instrument), which I have to say has been the only other bike I have been on, I would choose the GS.

However being tall the Dakar also sounds like a great option.
BUT what would you guys recommend.Remember I need to do some tar for a while before I do the offrode thing to learn and practice the skills I was tought.

I don't want to buy a bike just because I need to get one or because Groenie wants me to get a KLR.

Girls some of you are on KLR's and BMW's what would you recommend.
Is there any Honda Transalp or Yamaha guys that can give me some advice :dontknow:

My wife started on a KLR because it is a excellent bike and it does not cost you an arm and a leg, and they are really easy to ride and handle in the dirt, especially so for new riders. If I really had a few rands to spare I would have love to still have the KLR.

There is nothing wrong with the normal GS if you can afford one get one, they can do everything you will ask of it.

For ease of use it makes sense to get another KLR, for you and Groenie, he only rides at 100km/h anyway  From  all the bikes the KLR and GS is most probably the least expensive to repair in minor drops and spills, and they have the best resale value.

Go KLr and get the black one, it's really a beaut :)

GS GS GS GS GS GS GS GS GS......
Maybe not the best for all occasions, but the best all round package.
Just decide if you want a Dakar or a normal GS.....
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

I belief the 650GS is a greate bike, easy to ride and maintain and you can do anything. Dakar is nice. Transalp is very nice becuase its stronger than the 650's. the KLR is Butch (No punt intended)

Nobody can be exactly like me. Sometimes even I have trouble doing it.

transalp is too heavy for a girl. gs' lower centre of gravity ideal for you, but imo a bit pricey (it doesn't have a fuel gauge  ), compared to the klr. so, go klr, or better, take groenie!

A very biased GS, is my vote.

Only problem is that you will get bored waiting for Groenie to catch up the whole time at turns and intersections.  :D

the GS. especially the green one... sorry Groenie

MM, wait for the new KLR to come out.
