Ja, your house plus your bike, give or take your life savings.

Why are you entering?

You will have to put Mr Stuyvesant aside for a while to practice

Talk to www.rallyraid.co.uk

Most SA riders seem to link up with them.

When I last spoke to Oz, he said he stopped counting at R 650 000.  Quite steep.....  :)

Is Rally Raid not a company that rents the bike, back-up etc?
I was wondering what the costs would be if you took your own bike.I recall seeing something about a year ago that entrance was about 13000 Euro's.
Wanna join me, Michnus?

I think a house, a boat and your life savings are the least of what the Dakar takes out of you.

Read that book by Charley Boorman Wiggly Wanker. What a sad excuse - I think somebody should ask his daddy's publishers to stop killing trees to print shit like that. The guys' got one serious ego problem. It's like his still 13...help.

And that's your opinion
Mine is somewhat different but since you also ride a BMW I won't say any more about how I feel about your opinion

It goes up every year. Surprise, surprise! I seem to remember Tom Classens saying just the entry fee this year was in the region of E23,000. Am seeing some of the guys this weekend will find out for sure and let you know on Monday.

R 1/4 Mio isn't that much (a good holiday for two and it's gone). But I think the associated costs would make sure that you are left with very little.

IMO, there is quite a bit of differance in the budget depending if you want to race or just finish. And depending on your own technical skill and how rough you want it.

R650 000 is a racer's budget I think.
About half of that should be doable. SO for the price of a medium size luxury sedan you can do it, start budgeting for a R5000/month payment, easy as that..........
May the bridges I burn light the way...
