My 2nd race - Bredasdorp Regional Endure - AWESOME !!!
« on: March 13, 2010, 07:33:43 pm »
I have just got home from my second ever race - today's regional enduro on Pratt Farm outside Bredasdorp

I can proudly report back that today was very different from my first race in Caledon on 23 Jan

Today I

1. finished the race and did 3 laps in 3 hours 30 min
2. only fell off 3 times and did not break anything on me or the bike
3. finished in the top half of the field

It was very hard work physically but amazing fun and an awesome experience nevertheless - I think my arms are 10 cm longer from holding on to the handlebars for dear life

The course was super tight and technical with at least half of the 32 km lap being ridden through tunnels of trees just wide enough for the bars to pass through - I lost count of how many times I got whacked on the head by low branches

My KDX performed faultlessly and ran like swiss watch - still an amazing little machine considering its design is almost 25 years old

I am absolutely knackered and off to bed now - got to be up early 'cos I'm riding the Argus tomorrow - riding in M group with a 07h04 start time

Will let you all now my official finish result once I get them via e-mail on Monday
The older I get the faster I was

Well done! And the weather....well was wet! :thumleft: So for you nice and cool!

Buff and I went via the back roads, with the Tenere's to have a look!
The out back was great as well as watching the enduro. We got soaked from Valliersdorp there and back and just over da mountain the sun was shining :peepwall:

Maybe we see you on the next Enduro :ricky:

Justin, you say you did 3 laps, how does it work, do the take your best time of 1 lap, or is the entire race 3 laps?

If it is a 3 hour race, you race for three hours and then you have to complete the lap u are on after the three hours.

Ettiene there are various forms of racing in SA.

Offroads
Harescrambles
Enduros

An Offroad is timed from start to finish, best time wins. People do a time trial and then start in the order and timing apart.
So the person in the front is the leader.

Harescrambles are done on a loop course with various rules about how many laps you do.
Usually a 3 hour time frame and as many laps as you can.
Sometimes they stop you if the leaders lap you, but usually they allow you to complete as many laps as you can in 3 hours, then finish the lap you are on.
Results are like offroads, fastest wins.

Enduro's are different, there are various stages on the route, some are called regulation and the others timed racing stages.
The regulation stages are there to add distance to the event, the endurance. You get given a time (say 1 hour) to complete a stage and if you take longer you get penalty points.
If you make it is well under the time there is no benefit.
Then there are timed racing stages that count for penalties no matter what, the longer you take the more penalties. They will do say 10 points per minute, total penalties are what decides the winner.
So the aim is to make the regulations in time and race the racing stages.

This is also where various bikes are suited better to what competition.

450s are better at open terrain - harescrambles, rally's ect

125-200-250 smokers are better at enduro's

I would hate to do a technical ride with a 450. Only David knight is crazy enough to do that.
