The Trip begins where all trips begin, at the beginning...
I wont go much into the background of this trip beyond saying that it was supposed to be a lot longer and cover far more ground, and not to mention a third Transalp.
D-Day arrived on the 23 September 2009, the trip had finally begun. The bikes were packed, the panniers were decorated and Muz was having his first of many last smokes. We had spent the better part of the last week doing final preparation which turned out to be major construction, but at the end there was a set of aluminium Panniers.
A quick stop for fuel, and a excuse to ride on some dirt, any excuse would do seeing as the first leg of the trip would be the Never ending Road aka the N7, I swear this road is a tyre killer, probably lost half the tread on the brand new Heidenau K60 Rears.
Marvelling at the open sky and beautiful cloud formations, small things that make us happy after spending so much time behind a computer, living in the glow of office lamps.

The First night camping, and the First Drink, first days progress was slow, but then we were still feeling out the pace and getting used to the additional weight on the bikes.

Still being unsure if there would be three of us before we reached the Namibian border we decided to take a detour towards Pofadder, well technically is was a potential detour towards Botswana. Never the less we had a good nights Snoring match in a bed and breakfast (Vra Veer Guest House)
Loved the Rock formations along the road and had to stop on our way back to Springbok to get these pics
Well that was it for the SA leg of the Journey, after this we hit what we were after, the gravel roads of Nam. I feel that at this point it is important to mention that much as in the case of BMW where GS stands for "Geen Sand" the Transalp is a little more direct with the message When you think of alp you imagine mountains not sand, but then this is probably just me trying to make up for my lack of sand riding skill
