As a young man my Dad courted my Mom on a Vincent & a Harley. Grandad was a despatch rider on a Harley in North Africa in WW2.

yup, 1971 electra glide harley that he's had since before i was born.... but after i got the 200 i think he might convert to DS. LOL

And thats to protect you from the likes of us >:D

My dad is 84 hardly drives and never rode bike. Wish I could turn back the clock 15 years and both get bikes and go on trips with him.

My eie pa was mal oor bike ry, maar ek het my ouers egter verloor op jong ouderdom en is deur my oom (nee my PA) grootgemaak.
Hy is nou reeds op 'n solo trip in MP, en ons deel baie ure so saam in die saal. :thumleft:

My dad stopped riding when I was born, not to influence us with bikes. But the bug bitten without his influence.

He then started riding again and now has one of these:

Still tells me how you fully open the throttle, turn it slightly back, lean a bit forward and the bike runs 100mph.

Mine never rode, and was dead set against bikes. His ash would probably swirl around if he knew what my hobby was.

The Old Man used to ride BMWs in the 60s. Two weekends ago het told me how he rebuilt one in the semi-datched house in Sunnyside they were living in when I was born. One night, after redoing the wiring and stuff he kickedstarted it in the one bedroom/study at about midnight it and it awoke like a beast.

He took a bit of a hiatus, but started again in the 80s with a succession of bikes. First a Honda 175, then a CB550Four, then a CB750F and a Suzuki DR500. He still has the latter. Himself, my older brother and uncle did "Adv riding" trips to Gamkaskloof and die Richtersveld way back in the middle 80s already, complete with homemade panners made from metal ammo boxes.

Back then that kind of riding didn't have a name. People just thought you were dof.

When I talk about the HP2 I can see little sparks in his eyes.  ;D

My dad currently doesn't own one but he has owned several. My bike bug was firmly planted by him.

He is looking at getting one of these:

Speed Triple SE (Limited Edition).

Sadly no. My dad is a mountain biker. Bainskloof is his play area.

I was never allowed to own a bike, so I got one when I moved out. Turns out he tried once and fell his arse off while heavily gesuip...hence no bike for me. ;D

However, he owns a pub. Again, sadly neither me nor him drink alcohol...

My dad rode a modified 750cc Harley with a side-car in the desert near Cairo in north Africa. He was a radio op for the air-force during WW II. He passed away 3 years ago at age 83. Now I'm THE DAD taking my 22 year old son on DS rides, he on the DRZ and me on the AT. Keep the tradition alive!!!

Amazing! My dad also on Harley in North Africa. Fell and broke his leg badly. From there on he was dead set against bikes. I only dared to buy after he had passed away.

My dad used to own a few bikes when I was little. From a xt500 to a CB750. We stayed in Oshoek when I was still young and we used to ride the plantasies with his old bikes. He was driving and I was sitting on the tank. When I visit my parents and I take the bike along, he still takes it for small test rides in the neighbourhoor... ;D

But unfortunately, we have never owned bikes at the same time.., but he does love the GSA..
