What is your take on Suicide Squad?

I saw it last week.

A big ole stinking pile of dog shit, that one.

And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy."

Hated it. I think Warner made a massive mistake with their DC universe trying to catch up with Marvel.

The only movie I kinda liked was 'Man of Steel' but only kinda. I haven't seen 'Wonder Woman' yet but hear that is OK. And rumours around the standalone Aquaman is also starting to surface which says it is also a mess.

I actually like Cavil's take on Superman although HATED his smiky Supes in 'Justice League'. I wouldn't mind him in another Superman movie that has nothing  to do with the current franchise but know that won't happen.

But these current takes on the DC charcters are not working and personally think they need to cut their loses. I am still a bit shocked at how crap 'Justice League' was....

I'm also not a fan of Batfleck.
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

Man of Steel wasn't bad - not great, but not bad.
Batman v Superman (Ultimate Edition) started well, then became shit - the final action set pieces in these movies were waaaaay too long.
Wonder woman - the best DC movie in the franchise.
Justice League - watched it this weekend - was also pretty kak.

I think you're right - DC is trying to play catchup creating a shared universe. They should have followed Marvel's example more closely - take your time, build it slowly, have a plan... it seems DC has no plan at all, whereas Marvel had it all planned out years ago.

Must admit I've got tired of all these comic book based movies. Said this all before elsewhere but I have time on my hands now...

The last one I really enjoyed was Iron Man 2.

The rest have just steadily become increasingly boring, to the extent that I havn't bothered with the last 3 or 4. It's all just same old, same old. Over the top long, impossible action sequences in which everything gets blown up, knocked down etc - some plot that was very much the same as the previous 10 movies. And now we're supposed to get excited when we see another hero from a different movie...so now that's being overdone as well.

What I really enjoyed in the first two Iron man movies was his selfishness, but he's actually a very talented good guy, his quirky humour, his developing relationship with Pepper Pots etc. It was funny, entertaining and quite a good interesting story - up to that point. He wasnt a cardboard cut out at all, neither was she. Micky Rourke was a great villain too.

Now this whole comic book thing has just become this confusing mass of "how many super heroes can we cram into each movie, which has no real story, but lots of big explosions with slow motion action scenes where our heroes strike various pleasing poses as they beat the bad guy/s - just like the all the other movies". They're all just cardboard cut outs to me now.

It's just boring!

This whole "universe" idea never really worked IMO, because that's when the Iron Man movies started to become silly as well IMO. Iron Man 3 was bloody ridiculous!

They should put less effort into crowding their "universe" and more effort into making each movie a good decent exciting interesting story in its own right. There is no reason, given the budgets they have, why that is not possible.

As for the twenty odd versions of SpiderMan...  :bueller:

And all the remakes of Superman ....  :patch:

We're just being short changed due to lack of proper creative risk taking by the Hollywood execs. To much stale formula and reliance on explosions and CGI, not enough decent new stories!

It's the same problem as Lord of the Rings vs the Hobbit. LOTR was pretty dam good - as we all know! However, The Hobbit, with all the "universe" and background already established with audiences, should have been just as good. But its quite a simple short story, which only merited IMO a single movie. Hollywood wanted to rinse and repeat Jackson's success and so it became three bloated, sub-optimal rather tedious CGI action extravaganzas. Which is a pretty bad result, given they had a really good story to work with!  :eek7: :patch:

All the Comic book movies are suffering from the same problem IMO. They can fluff out any lame old script which doesnt really merit a separate movie by just padding it with lots of CGI/explosions etc and thus turn that into a separate product which they can charge for.

But I keep thinking its probably more profitable in the long term  to pay at least one good script writer? Because I can't be the only one who doesn't bother with these movies anymore?

Essentially you are right, but.... you are also very very wrong.

Yes, the superhero genre is getting tiring, and many of them are the same old same old.... but when they shake things up a bit, there are some truly great superhero movies.

Captain America: Winter Soldier. Never cared for captain America before I saw this film, never saw the first one.. but holy crap this was a great film. A proper spy/political thriller.
Captain America: Civil War, not as good as the winter soldier - but a proper storyline, excellent characters, and now Captain America is def one of my favorite superheroes.

Thor: Ragnarok. What a funny film that didn't take itself too seriously. Proper entertainment. Same goes for Guardians of the Galaxy - just a fun, feel good movie.

Winter Soldier was great.
So was Iron Man 1.
Batman Begins was also good
The Avengers movies had moments of enjoyment.
The rest was just shit. Too much explosions and lots of CGI and mindless plotless kak

Loved the first one.

Again...rumours abound about the second on being in trouble but don't want to dig to deep into spoiler territory.

Speaking of Comic book movies. Anybody ever hear about a character called Bloodshot?

Looks like shit... but fun shit.
With a title like The Meg - it doesn't appear that its taking itself too seriously.
Looks like a mix of Jaws 3-D and Deep Blue.
