Something that happened today! Awesome - in midtown, downtown joburg, I pressed the foot brake on my Dakar and it went straight to the bottom without stopping the bike!

EEK!

A healthy dose of oo f.., and liberal use of screeching gears and front brake, and a little skip in between the cars... we made it.

Investigation showed that in the rattles of the last ride (Thabazimbi weekend before last) the fill-up bottle had slipped downward. This in turn made the pipe sag between the bottle and the brake cylinder. This sagging was sufficient to make the pipe hit the chain.

The result was a pipe that looked perfectly normal from the outside with the inner side rubbed away, and happily leaking, one driplet at a time - not enough to notice, but when left over the weekend at the airport, enough to empty most of the bottle..

For the record using Elastoplast to cover the hole, and cable ties to hold it on appears to work, but after an hour one can see the brake fluid seeping thru..

Whew! We live :)
