Thanks to FreeXStyle events and productions who hosted a preview of the upcoming 3D X-Games movie. The movie starts with a freestyle jump and an eerie thud still viewing an empty sky. Panning down they reveal the rider and his bike and so the action starts.
I was to learn there is more to X-Games than freestyle motocross. They do skateboarding, snowboarding and rallying. Went behind scenes and did several interviews. The 3D was good and had me ducking, especially when one of the skateboarders shoved his board into our faces. Good sounds effects added to the thrill
Travis Pastrana is the embodiment of these games and would not be they same if it was not for his motox freestyle jumps. He takes part in his rally car and looks like he is really just playing a video game. They have one shot of two cars, the one ramping over the other as it races its own section of track. Scary how many bones he has broken. He is something else though.
Ricky Carmichael gets personal with insights into his racing career. He joined the action doing a height jump on his bike. They clear around 32 feet. Not bad.
Skateboarding was at an amazing level. A ramp the height of a large stadium was constructed and a few brave souls literally dropped down this. The build-up as they gained speed was intense, hearing the clicks from the wheels as they went over joined planks, slowly first, taking an eternity, to breakneck speed, to race up another ramp. This was only still the beginning. Now they jumped across a gap, doing some fancy stunt. All cannot end there - a landing is required. Finally they faced another almost vertical ramp launching them 20 feet in the air. Another little trick and down they come.
This movie is truly heart stopping.
