Red Light Runners ....
« on: May 10, 2010, 08:43:51 am »
Dawgs, most of us have been guilty, young and old, of either running or pushing red lights at least once. I think that this video should be shown to all cage drivers and bike riders.

It for sure made me rethink my own driving patterns. Watching this may be more effective than attending any safe drivers school.

Just because the light is "green" for you, doesn't mean it's totally safe to go through!  When the light turns green for you, rather wait a few seconds before pulling off ... and stuff the impatient minibus taxi behind you with his flashing lights and blaring horn.

I have a short ride to work and everyday there is some @#$% jumping/ running red lights. Yes you can blame the taxi's but Joe average is equally to blame.

The last instance of a bike being hit by a car that jumped a red light really make me think again.  Do not trust that a green light means all is safe ... slow down and look left and right before crossing into the intersection ...

I have noticed that more and more car drivers here in PE are guilty of this. Always gotta be careful before doing a speedy pull away when on the bike. Have already had a close call myself.  >:D

That is one of my biggest fears on the bike in traffic as well.

That is one of my biggest fears on the bike in traffic as well.

An old biker I was chatting to a while ago told me that it is for this reason that at a traffic light he always pulls up next to the vehicle waiting at the lights, never directly behind it.

Well, i had on saturday morning a close call near Diepsloot, there was a cycling race on, and the marshals showed the guys turning right to stop and for us going straight to continue and this idiot in a white Corsa Bakkie just turned right in front of me, nearly took me out  :xxbah:
