Just arrived home from the hosp.  Although Altus is in pain due to broken ribs and collar bone he is in high spirits.  He has been moved to a ward and is in Ward 2B in Livingstone.  He would appreciate some visits and Andrea suggested some bike mags as reading matter.  I will print out this thread and take it to him tomorrow when I go and see him again.  I have no doubt he will be pleased.

J-dog, a very generous offer.  I wish I had the funds to do the same and get him out of there.

Oh yes, the bike is not badly damaged and was able to be ridden home, although not by Altus.

Met Altus once on a ride with Michiel, really nice guy. Hope you get well real soon. Do not go to the comedy section.

Saw DD today. Having survived Livingstone so far means he has a strong constitution. He`ll be OK. The conditions dont seem to faze him. Says he has had worse accommodation on bike trips.

GET well soon. Maybe see you in September.

A few dogz have mentioned the possibility of pitching in to get Altus moved to a decent hospital, since he has no medical aid.  As much as I would like to, I can unfortunately not assist financially, although I will not hesitate to organize and arrange the move itself.  I will be speaking to Andrea tomorrow in this regard (she is not happy with him being thereeither) as well as phoning around for quotes to see what the costs will be.

To be quite honest, I personally would not like to be in Livingstone.  Altus arrived there yesterday and was only given a bed and placed in a ward at around 5:30 this evening.  The atmosphere is not exactly condusive to getting better and at times is worse than a railway station at peak hour.

If anyone has experience with something similar or would like to assist (or has any other ideas) please PM me and we can get the ball rolling.

Jughead, can you not arrange to get Altus to Knysna provincial if at all possible. It is WAY ahead of what we have here (or so I am told), in the WC and should not cost an arm and a leg to get him there.

Any private facility here could cost a small fortune.

Nonetheless, I will contribute if something can be done! PM sent.

I will be phoning around early tomorrow morning and will post the suggestions and target.  Will in the case of Knysna have to consider transport costs aswell.  Andrea is staying with friends here in PE, something she will possibly not be able to do in Knysna.  Will speak to her tomorrow.

Ive done this before, its going to be a PITA to get him out of that hospital, lots of forms & indemnifications signed in quadruplicate and bla bla bla, but its possible if Andrea is there to help (I take it theyre married).

Im my case my dad was pretty badly injured after rolling his car so we did it on the fly. I walked into the emergency recieving area and grabbed the first ambulanceman and paidf him a couple of hundred in cash to take us on a 270km trip to a private hospital. It was another PITA but we got it going okay in the end.

The rest is straight forward: Stand and deliver mula and youre in.

Keep me informed. Jughead, check your PM.

There are currently 6000+ members on this forum. If each one of us just donate R20 that will come up R120 000. Someone will just have to be appointed to manage this fund.

Someone will have to speak to DD. Will he approve?
