I think i came to the rite place to ask this question.

Is the Yamaha TDM850 any good on dirt roads?

Are you referring to this bike?  If so, it lack a few basic mods, namely a good bash plate, different tackies, and the exhaust pipes are definitely going to get dinged somewhere on a lonely gravel track. IMHO :roll:

Simple answer.....NO.
Nice bike, a guy with one went to Botswana with me a few years ago, but it was a tar road trip. He binned it in Kang on gravel, it did not hide the damage very well.
IMO it is not going to work well offroad, exposed exhausts, no belly pan, no handguards, exposed oil filter. I don't know how good the suspension is but methinks it has similar travel to a roadbike.
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

NO! that is a road bike.
The XTZ 750 was Yamaha's answer to the Honda Africa Twin. They were however never brought to RSA. The ones that you do see here are all grey imports. Great bike if you could find one.

Lootch had the TDM and brilliant punchy bike on the road but totally useless offroad unfortenately. Great bike and powerfull engine though 8)

Jip, useless off-road. Doesn't even crash well on road. Lovely commuter though.
